I laugh and give her hand a squeeze. “Mother, if I find myself in a situation I can’t handle, you and Daddy will be my first call. Always.”

“Promise?”

“Of course. I know you worry about me.”

She laughs and shakes her head. “God knows best and has a path laid out for you, so I have no choice but to trust in Him. But be safe, and please don’t fall for the tattooed bad boy, Loretta. There are so many good men out there.”

“I’ll do my best, Mother. I promise. And he’s just a friend.”

I don’t want to fall for Shades, but he intrigues me, and I want to explore that intrigue further. I want to explore these unknown feelings I have for him.

I want to experience life without losing myself or my heart.

Chapter Fourteen

Shades

The call to party with the guys came at the perfect time because I was seconds away from ripping Letty’s panties off and driving my cock balls deep inside what I’m sure is a tight, wet pussy.

I know I can’t pursue things with her, even more now that I’ve met her mother. They are a good family. Honest, decent churchgoers, for fuck’s sake.

All of the things I’m not.

Getting down with Letty will break her heart. I’m not the man for her. No matter how much I want to be buried inside her. I know it even if she doesn’t. I have to stay away from her, not literally since the Reckless Souls are still protecting the church, but far enough away that our lips and our bodies will never touch again.

I come to a stop outside Joe’s Tavern and suck down several breaths of cool night air, trying to push thoughts of Letty out of my mind. A few shots of whiskey ought to take care of any kind of thinking, so I go inside and meet up with the guys.

“I’m here now, boys. Let the party officially begin.”

Coop turns to me first with a smile that quickly turns to a scowl.

“What the fuck are you wearing?”

I look down and wince at the sight of the tuxedo t-shirt I’d worn just to tease a smile from Letty.

“None of your business,” I snap and zip up the jacket I wore to avoid scaring Clara.

Joaquin flashes a knowing smile in my direction, but the kid is up to no good. As a newly patched member, it’s hard to tell he hasn’t been around forever with the way he gives everyone shit. “Where’s your kutte?”

“At home,” I growl. “What’s with all the fucking questions?” I came here to stop thinking about Letty, and I can’t do that if I’m talking about her, answering questions about her. “I need a beer.”

“Get a pitcher,” Coop calls to my retreating back, and I flip him the bird and settle against the bar. “Two pitchers, a pilsner, and something dark. And five shots of whiskey, please.”

“Drinking your sorrows away?” A feminine voice asks the question, and I turn to find a busty blonde smiling up at me.

“Not my sorrows, honey, just drinking.” I can see right down her lowcut shirt to ogle a pair of top-notch fake tits bursting over the edge. Nipples hard as rocks. “Name’s Shades.”

“Heather,” she purrs and puts her hand out. “Nice to meet you, Shades. Looking for some company tonight?”

A pro. Of course, she’s a fucking pro. I have no problem with that, but if she’d been a regular chick, she could have been the perfect way to forget about Letty. “Not sure honey, I just got here.”

The more I stare down at those big bouncing titties, the more I’m thinking she’s exactly what I need. A good hard fuck, for cash, and then I can prove to myself why Letty and I don’t make a lick of fucking sense.

“You look like a good time,” she purrs again. “I’ll definitely find you.”

“Good.” I watch her round ass as she saunters off in those stilettos and smile. I’m a horny fuck, and right now, Letty’s soft, feminine form is the only one I see, day in and day out.

“If you stare hard enough, you might catch a charge.” Ace’s voice sounds behind me, and I let out a loud bark of laughter.

“She’s a pro. She wants me to look. Gotta size up the goods if I’m going to rent ‘em out later.” I wiggle my brows, and Ace rolls his eyes. “Grab the other pitcher, will ya?”

Ace nods and grabs the pitcher. “Where the hell have you been?”

“Dinner.” I keep my answer short and simple, but Ace is like a fucking bloodhound. “There’s a slab of triple chocolate cake in it for you if you keep your trap shut.”

Ace grins. “Deal.” The crowd at Joe’s is big tonight, and it takes us some time to make our way back to the pool tables at the far end of the tavern. “So, who made the cake?”
