With a war bellow, she tackled Venus to the ground. Venus kept fighting, but Millie, even though she was smaller than her sister, knew how to avoid punches and wasn’t afraid to fight dirty. It wasn’t long before blood started to fly.

Much as he enjoyed a good cat fight, this was getting serious, and Shadow had to work with these women to get the girl out. If they couldn’t remain civil, he’d have to figure this out on his own.

Deciding it was time to take charge, he grabbed Millie by the waist and hauled her off Venus. “All right, that’s enough!” He raised his voice. Something he rarely did. His size ensured he never had to. “Venus, one side of the plane. Millie, go to the other.”

“I’m not some naughty child to send to corner,” Millie spat. “She fucking started it!”

“You’re a spoiled little brat!” Venus hissed at her sister. “Always were. If it wasn’t Mama spoiling you, it was Papa. When Papa died, you whined constantly because you couldn’t get your way. It never occurred to you Mama didn’t have money to spoil you how Papa did.”

“I was eight!” Millie yelled back at Venus. “I wasn’t upset about things I didn’t have! I was upset I didn’t have my papa!”

“I said that’s enough!” This time Shadow let them know he wasn’t fucking around. His yelled response had both women jumping, their gazes fixed on him. “We have enough shit to worry about without you two at each other’s throats.”

Just as he finished speaking, his computer gave off a little ding. Incoming mail. With one more stern look at the women, he went to the laptop and glanced down at it. “Looks like Giovanni has something for us.”

He ignored them as he downloaded the file sent by the Shadow Demons. Opening it, he found it was the layout of a house. There was a green dot on one area in what looked to be a massive room near the center of the enormous structure. The accompanying letter had instructions on how to turn his phone into something that could detect and deactivate any trackers in the girl. He also had instructions on how to get them out, assuming they were in the subcutaneous tissue and not in her muscle or deeper. Shadow had medic training in the service, but didn’t really relish the thought of digging into the girl when she didn’t already have an open wound. He’d also need medical supplies he probably didn’t have on this plane.

“Come take a look at this, Millie,” he said. “Giovanni has isolated a tracking chip he believes is your sister.”

Millie glanced at the screen, then leaned in closer, her lips parting on a gasp. The she swore violently. “Trakhni menya grubo!” Fuck me raw. “You’ve got to be fuckin’ kidding me!”

“Gotta tell me what’s up, sugar,” he said, getting a sinking feeling life was about to get complicated.

“That room they’ve got her in? Yeah. Not a room.”

“If it’s not a room, then what is it?” Shadow was rapidly losing his patience. And that was saying something for a man known for his endless patience.

Venus came over and glanced down at the map. “I know that room. Huge ballroom. I remember parties there.”

“Not ballroom,” Millie snapped. “At least, not only ballroom. He expanded it after you left for your training. It’s three times as big as ballroom was. And he built a maze in it. A very complicated maze.”

Venus shrugged. “So?”

“So, big guy here can’t come with us. You won’t fit either. I have to walk sideways. Only place it opens up is in center. Only way out is through exit. Which is most likely guarded.”

“So? Go back out way you came in.” Venus sounded condescending. Which was getting on Shadow’s nerves as much as it was Millie’s. Venus seemed to look down on her sister. Like she wasn’t good enough. While Shadow had his issues with Millie, any fool could see she was more than good enough. She was highly skilled in a fight, and Shadow would be surprised if she wasn’t highly intelligent.

“Sure,” Millie said, throwing her hands up. “Why didn’t I fucking think of that? Oh! Maybe it would be one-way door at entrance?” She scowled at Venus. “Grebanaya suka,” she muttered.

“All right.” Shadow had had enough. “If you two can’t play nice in the sandbox, I’m gonna bury you both like cat turds.” He looked at one, then the other. “It’s your sister we’re going to rescue. I’d think your time could be better spent on figuring out how to get her out of that place instead of fighting each other. You’re not each other’s enemy! So either work it out, or I’ll tie you both up and leave you here while I get the help I need from our boys in Poland. Do you really want to be cut out of this one?”
