“He said he would fuck Remy,” I grind out, seething. “Like that was a fucking option.”

“What the hell?” He comes to stand in front of me. “Are you serious? He said that to you?”

I grit my teeth and drop my stare to my booted feet. The chilly air numbs me to my bones. I’m just thankful it’s been raining off and on all day. The threat of forest fires is gone.

“Not in so many words,” I manage to spit out, “but I got the idea.”

“I see.”

“It’s not okay. Finnick is not allowed to touch him. Ever.”

Judd nods in agreement, his brows furling. “I agree. We all know he’s off limits. He’s just a kid.”

Sickness sours my gut, threatening to make me puke up all Rey’s hard work on dinner.

“So why did you attack Remy?” he asks, voice matter of fact. Sometimes his no bullshit manner is annoying as hell.

“I didn’t attack him.” I crack my neck and then chug half my beer. “It was my wolf.”

A little lie.

Judd scowls. “Shift already, Cy. It’s making you crazy.”

“Not until the full moon,” I reply in a grumpy tone that earns me a huff of frustration.

“You’re ridiculous.” He clasps a hand on my shoulder. “Get a hold of yourself. You love that kid. If you accidentally let your wolf hurt him, you’d never let yourself live with it.”

He drops his hand and then leaves me to my thoughts. I sit down in one of the deck chairs, my gaze drifting to Remy’s big window. It’s stupid to watch him, but I’ve clearly broken all sorts of codes I never thought I’d break. He exits the bathroom in just a pair of black shorts, his upper body that’s littered with scars on full display. It takes every amount of effort not to stalk over to the window, press my nose to the glass, and watch him move about his space.

Fucking sick.

Still, I can’t look away.

He sits cross-legged in front of the window. His wet hair is no longer spiked up from earlier and hangs down over his brows. The bandage from earlier is gone, which gives me relief. Hopefully the punctures are already scabbed over. After picking up his newest journal, he sets to scribbling in it. I’ve always wondered what it is he writes in them but never cared to actually look.

Now, it’s all I can think of.

Die.

The deep, malevolent voice inside my head is sharp like a claw tearing through flesh. Evil creeps its way toward me. All I can think about above all is him. Remy. Panic explodes through me so intense and violent, my entire pack latches onto the bond, even Remy.

He scrambles to his feet, eyes wide and fearful as he runs from his room. Soon, five bodies are outside, crowding around me, almost as if they’re afraid I’m dying.

I’m shaking with terror. The idea of anyone getting to him is so maddening, I want to stalk the woods and take down anyone or anything who so much as looks at me wrong.

Which is exactly why I shouldn’t leave.

“I felt something out there,” I manage, my voice trembling. “Ewan…”

“I’ll go,” Rey says. “Just keep an eye on our boy.”

Normally, those sort of comments rankle Remy, but not tonight. As though he can feel my fear for him like a drenching icy rain, he shudders, hugging his middle.

“Get inside before you catch your death,” I bark at him in a rude tone that makes everyone, even me, cringe.

He shoots me a dirty look but obeys. Relief surges through me.

Glancing up, I inspect the moon through the clouds. Won’t be long and I can shift. I’ll run all this nonsense out of my system. Everything will go back to normal.

It fucking better.

Remy

Cash: Tonight?

I gape at my phone, a flutter of nerves dancing in my stomach. He seriously wants to do this tonight?

Me: They’re not exactly friendly.

Cash: What they don’t know won’t hurt them.

I fight a grin and tuck my phone away when Harrison walks back into Gary’s office I’m camped out in. He hands me another stack of paperwork to sift through. It’s been two days since my birthday. Cy has happily allowed Ewan to cart me to and from work, stating I need to spend time with Harrison learning the boring stuff before he’ll allow me to do any actual field work.

In Cy speak, he’s avoiding me.

Not that I blame him. My birthday was…weird. Worse than weird. Borderline disgusting. Cy’s like a…

I don’t finish that thought because that’ll just make everything a thousand times worse. We’re not family. Not related. No blood between us.

Unless you count mine that he drew.

For a moment there, I swore he was going to run his tongue along the crimson streaks. Hell, I even wanted him to do it. Craved it so badly it made my dick hard with want.
