“Hey,” I greeted as I walked in.

Jordan looked over. Her hair was down, and it swished around her face like a shampoo commercial. “Hi,” she replied. “How was poker?”

“Wonderful for me. The other guys not so much,” I said.

Jordan shrugged. “Well, someone has to lose, at least it wasn’t you.”

I chuckled. “I knew I liked you.”

Jordan cocked her head to the side and I felt a shiver down my spine. “Oh yeah?”

I took a step towards her. “Yeah.”

Jordan stood up off the couch. “Funny, you haven’t done anything to show me how much you like me.”

I snickered. She was a cheeky little minx. We all thought that we were the hunters, slinking around Jordan just waiting for a snack, but she was the one with her crosshairs on us all along. “Don’t tempt me,” I warned. “I’m not a gentle lover.”

Her eyes flared. “That’s okay. I like it rough.”

“You are unreal,” I said.

“If you think that’s good, I have great news for you,” Jordan responded.

I reached out and grabbed her wrist and yanked her towards me. I used a hand to tangle into her hair and snatch it back, tilting her head to look at me. She let out a hiss and slithered her hand down my stomach and over my crotch through my pants. It was already rock hard and ready to be serviced, and for the first time in months, I didn’t have to deny it. I started to push Jordan down to her knees when my phone screeched out, bursting the lust-filled silence.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” I said. I pulled my phone from my pocket, and when I read the message, I briefly wished that I crumple my phone in my hand. “Fuck!”

“Duty calls?” Jordan said, her hand still teasing me, resting over my hungry dick.

“A fucking robbery and hostage situation,” I said. Jordan pulled back from me, and I wanted nothing more than to reach out and keep her in place, but she knew I had to go, and so did I. “Can you please stay with--”

“Go,” she pressed, flicking her head towards the door. “I’ll see you when you get home.”

That phrase did something to me I wasn’t expecting. She’d be there when I got home. It was so simple, but in that moment I realized how much I’d missed it. No one was ever waiting for me when I got home. No one cared. For the first time in years, the urge to go to my job was stifled by the urge to stay home, to stay near Jordan, and even as I packed up my things, gave her a quick kiss, and slipped out, all I could think about was what I had to do to get back to her. She was waiting for me, and the feeling that gave me was something way heavier than I was willing to approach for the time being.

My partner and I had to go on a high-speed chase through downtown Dallas to catch the guy we were after. He caused two car accidents and had nearly killed the woman from the bank that he took hostage. We got through the night unscathed, but after all of the paperwork, and assessing damages, and getting the victims to the hospital, and writing reports, I was so tired I thought I was going to fall over. I trudged into my house hours later, knowing I didn’t have it in me to be with Jordan that night.

When I wasn’t able to find Jordan in any of the common or entertainment rooms in my home, I walked upstairs and checked inside Tyler’s room. I wasn’t expecting her to be in there, I just wanted to see my son to make me feel better for a moment, but the vision I was met with was like something out of a dream. Jordan was curled up on the bed, with Ty wrapped lovingly in her arms, and they were both snoozing away. She looked like a mother protecting her baby, and the way Tyler’s chest slowly rose and fell, mixed with the look of pure serenity on his face, let me know that he was experiencing something he hadn’t in a long time. The loving embrace of a mother. I stared long enough to emblazon the image on my brain. I loved it so much; I never wanted to forget it.

Once I’d taken my fill of the sweet scene, I tiptoed quietly into the room. I nudged Jordan’s shoulder until she stirred from her slumber, looking up at me with her beautiful, calm eyes.

“Hey, welcome back,” she greeted. “I wanted to be downstairs when you got home, but Ty woke up looking for you.”

I shook my head. “Never be sorry for this. Come on.”

Jordan gave Tyler a kiss on the forehead, and then carefully untangled herself from him and climbed off of his bed. I leaned down over him, tucked his blankets around him, and gave him a kiss as well. He stirred only to nuzzle further into his bed, and then drifted off again, letting tiny, adorable snores slip through his mouth.
