"Maybe next time you'll think twice before you toss him at me," Constantine says from the backseat. "You hurt his feelings."

"Maybe you should try apologizing to him," I suggest.

Constantine cracks up.

Dimitri briefly narrows his eyes at me before turning back to the road. "I was trying to save your life," he says. "I didn't want him running off again in the process. He didn't seem like he wanted to have a rational conversation about the situation. Tossing him to Constantine was the quickest solution."

"With the longest-lasting consequences," Constantine snorts. "He's not ever forgiving your mean ass."

"I really think you should try apologizing, Dimitri," I tease. "Maybe bring him a bag of treats and take him on a long walk. You guys can talk it out over a pup cup in the park."

"You and I will be talking it out as soon as I get you alone," he growls at me.

"Lock the damn dog outside this time," Constantine mutters.

I blush bright red, which only makes Dimitri grin.

"So…what kind of guns do you prefer, Constantine?" I say loudly, trying to change the subject before I sink through the floorboard. Everyone knows why Bear bit him yesterday. It wasn't very hard to figure out when I couldn't look anyone in the eye and Dimitri had claw marks all over his back. They all act like it's not a big deal—the fact that we're having sex, I mean—but I can't talk about it with them!

I still blush when Dimitri says dirty things to me or talks about sex.

"Powerful ones, Snow," Constantine says, fighting laughter. "Powerful ones."

"We're not talking about guns," Dimitri growls, whipping around a BMW creeping along in front of us. He drives fast.

"Why not?"

"You don't need to know about guns."

"I know how to shoot."

He turns his head to look at me, shocked.

"My dad used to take me to the range with him when I was younger." I smile at the memory. "I was pretty good."

"Holy shit," Constantine says.

"Jesus," Dimitri mutters.

"Can we–?"

"Fuck no."

"Well, you're no goddamn fun," Constantine mutters.

"What?" I ask, looking at Dimitri as he approaches an SUV parked on the side of the road. The doors are standing open on it.

"He wants to watch you shoot."

"Oh." I bite my lip. "I want to do it."

Dimitri groans. "I'm not sure I'll survive watching you handle a weapon, Magic."

"Why not?"

He turns to look at me again and I see the heat blazing in his eyes. It rolls over me like a wave, setting my blood on fire.

"Oh," I whisper, my nipples turning to hard points. I press my thighs together, trying to stop the way my clit tingles but it's no use. All he has to do is look at me like that and my body is under his spell, eager to obey his every command. He calls me magic, but I think he has a little magic of his own. My body certainly seems to think so.

"Look out!" Constantine roars from the backseat.

I glance out of the windshield, horror rushing through me. The SUV on the side of the road isn't abandoned and it isn't empty. Four men pour out of the vehicle in ski masks, guns aimed directly at us.

"Fuck!" Dimitri shouts. His eyes meet mine, pure terror in his gaze. He doesn't say anything. But he doesn't have to say it. I read the truth in his eyes.

This is the end.

We're going to die.

"I love you," I whisper.

"Little one," he breathes, shattering my heart into tiny pieces.

He hits the gas, driving directly at the SUV as gunfire erupts around us.

Chapter Eleven

Dimitri

I crawl from the wreckage of the SUV, blood trickling from a cut across my forehead, my heart pounding so loud it's all I hear. My hands shake as I grab for my gun, trying like hell to get it out of the holster before the motherfuckers pinned between the Rover and their SUV manage to fire on us again.

I don't have time to check on Snow or Constantine, but terror for both pumps through me with every furious beat of my heart. If they hurt her… Christ, if they hurt her, there will be no saving anyone. I'll hunt Delilah and the Carmonas to the ends of the fucking earth. They'll find pieces of them scattered from here to Honduras.

My gun slides free of the holster. I kick my way through the wreckage scattered on the ground, aiming for the first shooter. He isn't moving, but I pull the trigger anyway. The second is on the ground, crawling toward his gun. I shoot him twice. The third is dead, crushed between the vehicles. The fourth though… He's trying to run. I aim for his leg first.

He howls when he falls, landing hard on his knees before he rolls to his side.

I stomp toward him, wanting to see his fucking face before I end his miserable life. I rip his mask off as he writhes in the dirt. Shock runs through me as the familiar scar comes into view.
