“It’s adorable,” Elizabeth whispered, staring in astonishment at the tiny home my parents had bought us. When I told Elizabeth about it, she’d proceeded to burst into tears, ruining her make-up, but she still looked so fucking beautiful. Mom had rocked her side to side as she cried, and then Dad had taken over, them letting her get it out of her system.

She’d been so damn beautiful as she cried. I was pretty sure this woman was incapable of being ugly.

She wasn’t used to having people that cared enough to do things like this. Elizabeth’s parents were wealthy, but she’d always been forced to scrape by with the bare minimum.

But not anymore.

“Let’s go inside.”

I slid out of the truck, and once I helped her down, we walked inside. Elizabeth silently cried as we took in our new home, tears trickling down her flushed cheeks. All of the rooms were completely furnished. The only thing I had to do was grab our things from my room once Kaleb came over tomorrow. I didn’t want to bother my dad to do it, and there was no way in hell I was allowing Elizabeth to do anything—not with her being so far along in her pregnancy. I mean, fuck, tomorrow marked forty weeks pregnant.

She was due any day now.

“I can’t believe they did this for us,” she whispered.

I turned her to me and cupped her face in my hands. Leaning down, I pressed my lips to hers. “Welcome home, baby.”

She sniffled and allowed me to deepen the kiss. There wouldn’t be any sex tonight. Orgasms this late in the stage could bring about labor, and I wanted her body to bring about labor naturally. Besides, I wanted to enjoy our first night together in our new home without rushing to the hospital.

While I was excited to meet our little one, I wanted our first night in this home to be uninterrupted.

“I love you,” I whispered.

“Oh, Drake,” she croaked, “I love you, too. More than anything in the world.”

Then, she kissed me again, her hands cupping my jaw.

EPILOGUE

Drake

I groaned and leaned back in my seat, stretching my arms above my head. I fucking hated college classes. But most of all, I hated being away from my wife and son.

It had been over two years since I’d gotten with Elizabeth, and I still found it hard to believe that I now got to call her my wife—that she was even mine to begin with. Why she chose a man like me, I would never understand, but I’d forever be fucking grateful. That was for sure.

She made life so much easier. So much better. And even on rainy days, she brought nothing but sunshine.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket as I closed my textbook. My screen lit up, showing me my wife’s beautiful, smiling face and Nathan’s messy one. It was from his first birthday, and Elizabeth was so fucking happy when she saw him eating his cake. And despite the mess covering his cheeks and hands, he was grinning right back at her.

It was one of the best moments I’d experienced so far as a husband and a father, and I knew there were only even more great moments to come.

Nathan kept us on our toes, that was for sure. He was extremely smart for his age and so fucking advanced that it blew my mind most of the time. I knew he got it from Liz, but his motor skills had to come from me.

It was like he took the best of both of our genes. And everyone fawned over him. He was the light in anyone’s world who was lucky enough to know him. My parents spoiled him rotten, and Kaleb had turned out to be the best uncle a kid could ever ask for.

I opened my messages app and clicked on the icon with Elizabeth’s picture. She was standing in the middle of the field of sunflowers, her head tilted back so the sun could wash over her face. She’d done it in the spur of the moment, and I hadn’t been able to resist capturing the beautiful image.

Hey, baby. Just finished class. Going to be on the way home in a few minutes.

We’ll be here. *kiss emoji*

I smiled down at her message, hearted it, and then shoved my phone back in my pocket before getting out of my seat. She did online classes to get her English degree, but I had to come to school since what I was majoring in wasn’t offered online.

My days were long. Between classes, going home and working with my dad, and still being a dutiful father and husband, I barely had time to breathe. But I’d never change it for the world.

My phone rang with Kaleb’s stupid ringtone when I got to my car. Grunting, I pulled it out of my pocket and then slipped into the driver’s seat of my car. “What?” I grumbled.
