“No.”

“There you go.” She waved her hand airily at him. “When he wants to talk, he’ll let you know, so back the fuck up and give the man some room to breathe.”

Dax grinned down at her. “I’ll try.”

“Don’t try.” She gave him a pat on the side of his shoulder. “Succeed.”

“Does it work for you?”

“Sometimes.” T.A grinned back up at him. “Usually not,” she admitted truthfully.

“I like you, T.A.”

“I like you, Dax.” As soon as she said it, she worried that he would take it the wrong way. “In a friendly kind of way.” She waved her hand at him, then at herself. “Just so you know, I’m not interested in you sexually.”

“Me either.”

“Then we’re both cool. I just wanted to get that straight.”

“Me too.”

She expected him to go back inside the kitchen or let her pass him, but he stayed where he was.

“So, like you said, keeping everything straight. Are you interested in my dad as a friend or sexually?”

T.A. really didn’t want to tell Dalton’s son that she wanted to bang his dad—that was a little too much sharing in her opinion—nor did she want to lie. She had told Dax to try. Well, if she didn’t try to get Dalton, she for sure wouldn’t succeed.

“You have your phone handy?”

“Yes.” Reaching in his slack pocket, Dax took out his phone.

“Take my number and give it to your dad. Tell him to call me.”

“Has Dalton called you yet?” Killyama glared as a nurse hung another bag of fluids on her IV pole.

“I’ve been with you since I told you this afternoon. If he had called, you would know.” T.A. told her, raising her feet in the fancy recliner. “I wonder how much this thing costs? I want one.”

“More than you have in that skimpy checking account of yours.”

“Don’t be a bitch to me. Sex Piston will be here in an hour. Save it for her.”

Plaintively, she gave her friend a pout, which she knew wasn’t going to work. Killy was in a foul mood. If she didn’t love her friend so much, her ass would have turned around five minutes after she entered the door. “You think if I sell all the shit Bear left behind, I could afford it?”

A hiss of disgust escaped Killyama’s lips. “You couldn’t get a buck twenty-five for his shit.”

“Yes, I could. He had a computer and an Xbox with several games.”

Killyama’s interest perked up, and she stopped texting someone on her phone.

“Which games?”

T.A. told her. “What do you think?”

“Bring the Xbox and the games tomorrow when you come to visit me. I’ll take them off your hands. Might as well give me the computer too.”

“How much will you give me for them?”

“A buck twenty-five.”

“Screw you. It’s not worth my time packing that crap up for that chump change. I’ll sell it on eBay and take my chances.”

“You’re not going to do a bitch a solid by giving me something to play with while I’m stuck in bed?”

“Bitch, who do you think you’re fucking talk to? Fat Louise? Train would buy you a brand-new one and fifty games if you want them to make you happy.”

“But they wouldn’t be Bear’s. It would piss him the fuck off knowing I was playing it.”

“He would be just as pissed off if I sold it to somebody on eBay.”

“That person on eBay going to give you a car?”

T.A. quit playing with the electric recliner. “You’re going to give me a car?”

“The green bomb.”

“Train had the car fixed for you.”

“I have my sights set on something better.”

She shook her head at her friend. “I can’t take your car.”

“We’ve always shared that car.”

“That was because it was a piece of crap; it smokes everyone else’s now. I can’t take it, Killy.”

“Why are you arguing with me? I’m not giving it to you. I’m selling it to you for the Xbox and the computer.”

Killy always pretended to be such a hard ass, but she was the protector of their group of friends and could always be counted on to have their backs.

T.A. felt tears gathering behind her lashes. If Killy saw she was about to cry over her offer, she would get out of bed and kick her ass.

“Thanks, but I can’t take it.”

“The car comes with Manson.”

“Uh… hell fucking no! I hate that fucking cat!” She really didn’t, but there was no way she was going to be bamboozled into taking that demonic feline.

Killyama crossed her hands over her chest. “You’ll be doing Crazy Bitch a solid. Calder is allergic to it.”

“He’s not allergic; he just hates it as much as everyone else. Why don’t you take it?”

“Train would divorce me.”

“That sucker wouldn’t divorce you if all the Last Riders put a gun to his head.”

“He would over Manson. If you take him, you’d be doing both of us a solid as well as Fat Louise because she said if you don’t take him, she would. We both know Cade will kill it. He has a personality conflict with—”
