“I cannot wait for you to meet your husband.”

“He will learn soon enough he cannot dictate to me,” Leora said. “Besides, I have yet to decide if I will honor the marriage agreement. Now why is Ann crying and my sister looks like she is about to?”

“Come in and close the door and I will tell you, but you must swear to speak of it to no one,” Elsie warned.

“Not even to Sky? We never keep anything from each other,” Leora reminded.

“Nay. We shall share it with Sky,” Elsie said.

Satisfied, Leora closed the door and sat and Wadely once again revealed the secret.

Cavell grabbed his wife’s hand and hurried her through the keep and up to their bedchamber. It felt like it had been ages since he got his wife alone during the day. Leora and Ann spent endless time with her, and Elsie spent extra time with her da now that he was getting around well. And he was busy himself with all that needed to be done before winter set upon them.

But he had an urge to be alone with his wife, not so much to make love, though he wouldn’t mind, just to be alone with her if only for a little while.

Elsie hugged her husband tight, then gave him a kiss. “I am so glad you stole me away for a while. I have wanted to get you alone.”

“We think alike, wife,” he said and nibbled at her neck.

She scrunched her shoulders, his nibble sending gooseflesh racing over her. “There is that, but first I must tell you something.”

He groaned. “I beg you, not another secret.”

“A secret between you and me for at least a little while,” she said and took hold of his hand to place on her stomach.

He looked at her speechless, then hurried to say, “You are sure?”

“Aye,” she said. “I am sure our child nestles inside me.”

Cavell scooped her up in his arms and planted a firm kiss on her lips. “I am thrilled, wife, and I agree. It is our secret for a little while.”

She nibbled at his neck. “Now before anyone notices that we disappeared, let’s make hasty love in celebration of the news.”

“A perfect way to celebrate,” he said and before he made it to the bed a rap sounded at the door.

They both groaned in disappointment.

“You better get to the Great Hall,” Melvin called out.

Melvin was gone when they opened the door, and they made their way to the Great Hall worried what trouble there may be.

“Do what you will with him. I have no desire to meet him,” Leora said and rushed out of the room.

Melvin grinned. “Noble, her husband, has arrived.”
