She squeaks and then launches herself into my arms, hugging my neck so tight I might suffocate.

“Can’t breathe.”

“You bought us a house.”

“If you want it.” She lets go of me, and I brush a strand of hair off her cheek. “Maybe we can even get married there. The backyard is big enough, I think.”

Now, she just blinks at me. “What?”

“You think I’m not marrying you? Silly girl.” I kiss her, set her on her feet, and then kneel before her, pulling the ring out of my pocket. “Sophie Montgomery, will you please put me out of my misery and marry me?”

“You’re not miserable.” But she grins and holds her hand out for the ring. “But yes. Yes, absolutely, Ike Harrison. I’ll marry you.”

I slide the ring onto her finger, and it fits perfectly. And then there are photos snapped, and we’re wrapped in love and hearty congratulations.

For the first time in my life, I’m being pulled into a family that actually loves me for me and not for what I can do for them.

I have to get used to that.

But for Sophie, I’ll do anything.

“Ike Harrison makes the touchdown!”

I jump out of my seat and scream and clap, even though I know he can’t hear me. It’s the first home game of the season, and he’s killing it.

“That’s the third one in two quarters,” I say with excitement, and high-five Keaton, who’s sitting next to me. “My fiancé is a badass.”

“It’s good that you’re excited. Every camera is currently pointed up here to get your reaction.”

“It’s okay.” I shrug and smile down at the field. “It’s just the way it’s going to be. I can deal. How about you?”

“No one cares that I’m here.”

“No, silly. Speaking of being famous, how did things go with Sidney? You never did tell me.”

“We had fun,” is all he says.

“That’s code for we had sex.”

He just smirks.

“And then?”

“And then nothing.”

I goggle at him. “Keaton Williams, you had a one-night stand with Sidney Sterling?”

“It’s complicated.”

“No, I don’t think it is. In fact, I think it’s just a yes or no question.”

“Okay, I don’t want to sit with you anymore.”

Suddenly, there’s a commotion on the field, and our team intercepts the ball, causing a turnover for the opposing team.

Keaton stays where he is as we watch Ike take the field once more. He calls the play, and when it’s hiked back to him, there’s no one open to pass to.

So, he runs it.

He dodges and swerves, making it into the end zone and giving Seattle yet another touchdown.

I’m losing my mind and watch as Ike turns his head up to me and points my way as he runs down the field.

I love you, too, babe.
