He rolls his eyes, but grins at me. Since I got off the drugs, my relationship with my hermano has been much better. We don’t fight, and we’ve finally found a happy medium in the cartel where we each do what we’re good at.

My eyes widen when he leaves the room and I finally look at the envelope.

“Fuck, Rain,” I mutter. “This is from the attorney’s office.”

“Open it,” she urges me, nervously biting her thumb.

I tear through the envelope and pull out a stack of papers. My eyes skim the words and I grin widely at myself.

“Your divorce has been completed,” I mutter. “Xavier finally signed the papers that absolve you.”

“Really?” she shrieks with excitement. It’s one of the rare moments I get to see her this happy, and I can’t erase the smile off my face as I pick myself up from the couch we’d been cuddling on.

She covers her mouth with her palm and gasps when I kneel on the floor before her.

“What?” I poke fun at her. “Don’t tell me you didn’t see this coming. I warned you. Remember that envelope in your bedroom when I got you back?”

She nods, tears welling in her eyes as I pull out a little black box.

“Rain, will you make me the happiest man on this fucking planet and be mine forever?” I ask in a low growl. Sentimentality isn’t what I’m best at, but I’m speaking from the heart, and judging by Rain’s tears spilling over, she feels it, too. “I swear to you I’ll never stop making you happy. No matter how dark it gets, you’re my Sunshine. Will you be my wife, too?”

“Yes,” she squeals and I smirk, sliding the diamond and ruby encrusted ring on her finger. “Oh, I can’t believe this is finally happening.”

“You better believe it is,” I laugh. “And it’s happening today. Liberato is going to perform the ceremony.”

Her mouth opens in shock and she whispers, “But… What about my dress?”

“The seamstress you’ve met will be here within the hour with some options,” I grin. “I’ll call her now.”

While I make the call, Rain admires the ring on her finger while her other hand rests protectively on her belly. I’ll never get sick of seeing her like this. She’ll be a wonderful mother, and right now, she makes the perfect blushing bride. She’s practically glowing.

“I’m going to get everything ready,” I say once I’m done with the call. “There’s a chapel on the grounds here. I’ll have one of the men show you. It’ll be just us and Liberato. Oh, and the baby, I suppose.”

She laughs out loud. And it’s the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard. “This is perfect. I still can’t believe it.”

“I’ll see you soon, Sunshine.” I leave a kiss against her cheek and leave her in the capable hands of a guard.

A smile spreads across my face as I rush to get everything ready for the wedding. This was the first sign of genuine excitement I’ve seen from Rain in a long time. It makes even more excited to make this day perfect for her.

I wait for her in front of the altar. Liberato stands beside me and both our eyes go to the double doors of the chapel as they open wide. Light spills into the room, the stained red glass windows casting Rain in a beautiful light. I’ll never forget the way she looks right now. Stunning is a fucking understatement.

She’s wearing a lace fitted gown with a mermaid train, and a veil that takes my breath away. It’s made of the most sheer silk I’ve ever seen, trimmed with sequins and dripping with diamonds at the edges. I’m stunned into silence by the sight of her. That I’m the lucky bastard that gets to make her mine is making me suck in my breath as I wait for her to come to me one last time.

She keeps her gaze down-turned, only looking at me once she reaches me. Those pretty, cornflower blue eyes find mine as I push the veil off her face.

In her hands, she’s holding a bouquet of red poppies, and I smile to myself as I see her dress is stained with grass at the bottom. She must’ve picked those herself. I had some planted years ago when Liberato and I first moved here. It’s the perfect complement to her look, and I can’t get enough of her at that moment. She’s a wild beauty, and I’m the one who captured her. Now, she’s mine. Willingly mine. And nothing will ever change that.

Thankfully, Liberato skips the objection part when he joins us in holy union. When Rain breathes I do, my entire world shifts in front of my eyes. I’m not a priority any longer. Now all that matters is my wife and the children we’re going to have together. I’m always going to put them before me, and if anyone dares hurt them, I will have their heads for it.
