At the end of the day, I went home first to change before taking an overnight bag to Rowan’s. Beth was already there, and they talked photography and clothing while we ate, and I didn’t even have to apologize when I tuned them out.

I picked up the stuffed dog Rowan had brought home with him from the office, remembering my first day over a year ago and smiling at the Gucci collar and absurd sweater vest he’d bought him. My ridiculous sartorial lover.

When Rowan’s cell buzzed with a call, he glanced at the screen and answered right away. “Hi, Lorenzo. Dinner sounds good. Shae is right here.” He handed me the phone with a pointed look, and Beth laughed.

“Hi, there! Yes, we can come on Saturday.” Lorenzo had learned to trust me, the more organized one in this relationship, with our plans, so that made me love him even more. He was a warm and wonderful man, and you could hear the affection he had for Rowan’s father—and for Rowan too. I enjoyed all the photos as well, especially those of Rowan as a child. Believe it or not, he had that haughty air even back then.

We’d spent Thanksgiving with Lorenzo and Christmas with my family. By the time we got on the road to Missouri, Rowan was itching to leave the city. He ended up loving our hikes and fishing with my dad. I would’ve never called that one. My siblings might not have known what to make of him last summer, but he charmed the pants off them right away. The twins even behaved themselves more when he was around, which was amusing. Suppose he just had that commanding presence.

He and Mom texted regularly now too, and that warmed my heart.

After Beth left and we straightened up the place—something I was a stickler about—we showered together. He was especially gentle when it came to washing my hair, and his fingers were magical after a long day.

When we got into bed, we kissed for a long while. I loved that Rowan took his time with me, making me feel special and cared for whenever we were together. Even a simple touch from him on the small of my back spoke volumes.

“I’m going clubbing with Casey and Paul tomorrow night. Want to come?”

“Is that an actual question?”

I wiggled against him. “I’m gonna wear my crop top and those tight jeans you like so much.”

He growled, tightening his arms around me, which was amusing.

“Does that mean you’re coming?” I asked against his lips.

“Maybe.”

“You owe me after I attended that snobby party with you last month.”

He sighed. “Fine.”

Rowan wasn’t far off when he’d bragged about being good at relationships. Oh, we certainly had our arguments—and make-up sessions. But there was a lot of compromise and communication between us. Which was normally in the form of banter, just the way we liked it.

Speaking of the snobby party, it was the second time we’d met Brett in public. He had himself a new guy he seemed wild about, but he no longer tried to rub it in our faces. In fact, he’d approached me at the bar alone.

“For the record, Rowan never looked at me the way he does you,” he’d said, and I’d admit I enjoyed hearing it.

“You sure that’s not just an excuse for how badly you treated him?”

He’d huffed. “What did he tell you about me?”

I shrugged. “Enough. Hope you don’t blow it with the new guy too. Though you’d probably deserve it.”

I smiled to myself as he strode off.

“So it’s settled. You’re going clubbing with me.” I kissed Rowan’s lips as he made a noise in the back of his throat. “I like when you get all growly.”

“Yeah?” He rolled on top of me, and damn, our dicks rubbing together always got me going.

He penetrated me sometimes with his fingers or tongue and twice with his dick, though I’d never expected or needed it. Rowan had done the asking, wanting to know how it would feel with me—the man he adored—even if topping was something he rarely wanted. But he said it was important to know all of me. If that hadn’t sent me swooning, I didn’t know what would.

Yet somehow, none of that mattered so much as how very intimate and overwhelmingly special it always felt with him, from kissing to making love. And hot. Definitely hot.

When he rummaged around in the side drawer for the lube, my cock thickened. Pulling out the dildo got me to full mast. We experimented plenty, and I loved it. It was some of the best sex of my life.

“Lift your knees, sweetheart.” His husky voice, along with that term of endearment, made me melt.

Getting more comfortable on the pillow, I rocked backward to show him my hole. He bore down on his erection with the heel of his hand. “Just look at you.”
