“What did I tell you was next, Micah? We discussed your schedule last night. Have you already forgotten?”

Since his back was to me, I rolled my eyes. “No, I haven’t forgotten, asshole. Shower in the room and then downstairs for breakfast.” He opened the door, checked the hallway, and motioned for me to follow him. His hand snagged my upper arm and all sorts of thrills and naughty chills raced through me from the innocent physical contact. Without responding to my comment, he led me to the stairs instead of the elevator.

“It’s good to not repeat any of your activities—don’t ever get into a routine that someone might be able to learn.”

I eyeballed him. “Is that honestly the excuse you’re going to give for making me walk fourteen flights of stairs after a two-hour workout?”

“Best excuse you’re going to get,” he growled. “Start walking. We don’t have all day.”

As I huffed and puffed up the nasty and hot stairwell, I called him every dirty name in the book…inside my head, of course. Best excuse, my ass! I’d obviously been ridiculous to think we might have bonded last night. I’d spent the night dreaming sex dreams about him while he’d never given me another fucking thought. Jinx Gentry wasn’t used to being ignored, and I wasn’t about to let it happen now. Landon Honeycutt had absolutely no idea what I was capable of when I put my mind to it. The biggest obstacle, though, was that I didn’t have a lot of experience trying to seduce a man.

Fuck.

Thirty minutes later, we were sitting at a small table in the hotel restaurant, waiting for a server to take our order. I was starved and my stomach pleaded for food, but I knew anything delicious or fulfilling wasn’t in my near future, at least not while cat-walking in Milan. Perfect. I was starved and horny. I was accustomed to dealing with the lack of food, but the horniness was something new to me. I didn’t like it, not even a little. Damn, it was a frustrating feeling. It made me feel on edge and itchy all over.

The waitress finally came to our table, a flirty smile on her face. The flirt, however, wasn’t directed to me…which was also new and only added to the irritation already throbbing in my temple. Nope, that smile and come-hither look was directed straight toward Landon. Possessiveness raced through my blood and it was all I could do to keep the professional, friendly expression on my face. Smile pretty—even when you aren’t feeling it. I’d learned that shortly after losing my pacifier. Fake expressions, if they were a profession, would be my expertise. As it was, they were useless.

“What can I get you beautiful men this morning?” she asked, eyes never leaving Landon.

My blood boiled.

Landon folded his menu, sent a smile to the waitress that no doubt made her panties damp, and said, “I’ll take a black coffee and the breakfast bar, please.” He looked toward me and said, “What about you, kiddo?”

Kiddo? Was he fucking kidding me? That shit right there had been on fucking purpose. He’d meant to piss me off and had succeeded.

Challenged accepted. “I don’t know, Daddy.” I offered him my most innocent smile. “Definitely not the breakfast bar. One of us has to be able to walk the catwalk and earn some money.” I folded my own menu and set it aside. “One of us has to work and one of us has to eat.” I flashed the waitress my brightest smile and said, “I’ll take an order of egg whites and a filet without any seasoning.” Feeling the need to splurge, I added, “And a side order of strawberries, too.” I could already taste the sugary sweetness of the fruit and my mood lifted immediately.

Recognition finally caused the waitress’ eyes to widen. “Wow! Are you Jinx Gentry? You are, aren’t you!”

“Yes, ma’am,” I answered politely, preening because she finally realized who the true celebrity at the table was.

“My daughter is totally in love with you! She’ll just die when I tell her I waited on you for breakfast.” Her eyes immediately turned back to Landon. “I can definitely see where you got your looks.”

Her voice was suggestive. I was forgotten. Instead of boiling, my blood went straight to volcano eruption level.

“He isn’t my father!” I snapped. “My parents were supermodels, not…not…”

Shit. I’d stepped right into it. Mom and Sammie thought it would be best if people didn’t realize I had a full-time bodyguard accompanying everywhere I went. Fuck.

“I’m his babysitter,” Landon replied smoothly. His green eyes twinkled when he looked at the expression on my face. “He’s a bit of a troublemaker, so we decided he needed some adult supervision. With a young daughter of your own, I’m sure you understand.”

Goddamnit!

She laughed and then blushed when Landon winked at her.
