“He should’ve thought of that before he attacked a parent.”

Screw that. Law cannot lose his program or his students. He’s the best teacher I know. Hell, he’s the best person I know. Even with the lying, he’s still better than the majority of most humans. He’s kind, funny, passionate, and … fuck, I miss him. I miss being his friend, and I miss having him in my bed. I want him. Need him. Don’t want to be without him.

Holy shit.

Well then. I storm over to the desk and the officer who was talking to Brody. “I want to make my official statement. Mr. Sullivan swung at Lawson first. It was self-defence. Mr. Sullivan also has an assault record. We were in here with Sergeant Boyd a few weeks ago with his son, filing for a domestic violence order against him.”

The officer looks down at the file in front of him and then back at me. “You’re Reed Garvey?”

I nod.

“In the notes the officers took at the scene, you said you didn’t see anything. You were getting Lawson Steele’s phone and were out of the room.”

“I returned just in time to see Mr. Sullivan try to hit Lawson.”

The officer sighs as if he doesn’t believe me, and then Brody drags me away again back to our corner.

“What the fuck are you doing?” he growls.

“Saving Law’s ass. He’s not in the wrong here. I have no doubt Sullivan attacked first. Law’s dojo is all about order and never using their techniques unless they have to.” Although, when I found Law, he wasn’t in any type of control. I shake that thought free though. He’s not the type of guy to lose it without reason. I don’t know him well, but I know at least that much.

“Committing perjury isn’t going to help you,” Brody whispers.

“Law is innocent.”

“You’re really strung up over this guy, aren’t you?” Brody’s tone is mostly inquisitive, but I tell myself to ignore the hurt undertone. Brody and I … we’d never work.

“Well, yeah. I kinda am,” I say truthfully.

He sighs. “Okay then. Let’s get him bailed out as fast as we can so you two can sort your shit. But you should tell him if he ever lies to you again, I won’t hesitate in kicking his ass, even if he is my client.”

I’d like to see him try to kick a martial arts instructor’s ass. “You loooove me.”

“Shut up.”

My face falls when I realise I haven’t called Law’s brother yet. “I should call Anders.”

“Real Anders or fake Anders?”

I ignore Brody and take out my phone and call Anders, and then when Law’s phone rings in my pocket, I want to kick myself. Of course, I don’t have Anders’ number. Luckily, Law’s phone doesn’t have a passcode, and I can use his.

I wait for the anger over the phone thing to build. It’s a reminder of what Law did to me, but it doesn’t trigger the same feelings of betrayal. Law’s more important to me than a petty grudge over something that got blown out of proportion. In hindsight, I’m a dumbass for not knowing something was wrong sooner. I was too busy wrapped up in my crush on Law while sleeping with his brother to realise I already had the thing I wanted the whole time.

I want Law.

So, jail isn’t fun. Shocking, really. I’m only in a holding cell, so it’s not like I run the risk of being someone’s bitch when I’m the only one in here, but still, the whole place smells like urine, it’s small enough to induce claustrophobia, and the bare walls and no belongings means I have no idea how long I’ve been in here.

I don’t know what came over me in the dojo. The only thing I know for sure is the guy tried to hit me first, and what I did was so far past self-defence I have no idea what’ll happen to me now.

I might lose everything, all because I couldn’t control myself. That makes me no better than Davis’s dad or even Kyle.

Dropping onto the small bench in the cell, I rest my head in my hands.

Kyle. He’s still doing time for trying to kill Anders. Yet, when I was punching Mr. Sullivan, I was envisioning him. The man tried to take my brother away from me, and I didn’t realise I haven’t dealt with that. Not properly.

The door to my cell swings open, and I jump to my feet.

“You’re being released,” the officer says.

“On bail?”

He scoffs. “No. All charges are dropped.”

My eyebrows soar high, and my chest fills with relief, but I can’t help wondering if this is a trick or I’m dreaming or … “What? Why?”

Another man appears in the doorway. His suit looks expensive, his brown hair is messy, and he’s super hot. “As your lawyer, I advise you to keep your mouth closed and accept that there won’t be any charges. Get out of here before they change their minds.”
