“How did you know I was here?” I ask.

“I always know when you’re near,” he answers as he opens his eyes.

“And how’s that?”

“Your scent wraps around me like a warm embrace, welcoming me back to your presence,” he says as I reach the bottom of the throne steps. As I begin to ascend them, he continues, “My heart begins beating faster. My mind feels like it ceases to be able to think properly. My body longs to be closer to you.”

I reach him and his hands immediately go to my waist, pulling me into his lap.

“I’m not sure this is appropriate on a throne.” I giggle.

“This is nowhere near how inappropriate I could have you on this throne.”

Heat rushes through me, and he doesn’t quell it in the least when he bites on my earlobe. I have to remind myself we have somewhere to be just to not give in to the thrumming between my thighs now.

“We have plans,” I breathlessly say.

“Yeah, for me to be inside you.”

“Halun,” I whimper when he licks from my ear to my collarbone.

“Luna,” he groans right back.

“I have dinner waiting for us. You’ll make us late.”

He groans out his frustration. “Fine, but we will be in this exact same position later. You in my lap, with me making all the thoughts that are running through my mind right now become a reality.”

“Deal.”

We stand and Halun adjusts himself in his pelt. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if we’re a little late … But there’s no little with Halun. If we have sex, our food will be cold by the time we get to the dining hall. I link our hands and we leave the throne room. When we reach the dining hall, the room is set up just how I asked for it to be. Glowing flowers along the table, two plates and tall glasses, although they’re set up much too far apart, at different ends of the table.

Halun unlinks our hands, and I see he just had the same thought because he grabs the plate and glass from the other end and places it to the left of the other plate. He pulls back the large cushion from under the table for me and I take my seat.

“Thank you,” he says as he sits down. “I really needed this, especially after how long today felt.”

“No complaints that were too bad, I hope?” I ask as we begin eating.

“Some of the human females who came here are making requests for their family members to be brought up.”

“Oh, that’s great.”

“That’s what I thought at first, until it was explained further, and I realized those family members had not come on their own because they’re married to males who are very much still clinging to The New Order’s ideals.”

“Oh,” I murmur, realizing what he means.

“Yeah. Their husbands could easily say we’ve kidnapped their wives, but I also don’t want to basically leave them with males in houses they’re being held hostage in.”

“Well, with the new laws that will be put into place on Earth could help, right?”

“Yeah, but do those females even have the time it would take to create and enforce those laws? What are they being subjected to when those cowards they’re married to can no longer treat them the way they always have? They won’t strike out against The Opposition or Hallans …”

“They’ll strike out at their wives,” I finish for him.

He nods. “I’ve set up a meeting with both Hallan and human leaders to see what can and should be done. I’ve invited Bo and Selina to it, and I’d like you to be there as well.”

“Of course. All the other issues weren’t as bad?”

“All things that are manageable. Some Earth plants were brought here, but we want to make sure to plant them away from other agriculture for now, in case there’s any adverse reaction to a foreign plant in Hallan soil.” He smiles, then. “There were many inquiries about your ball.”

“I cannot even tell you how excited I am for it.”

“Oh, I can tell.” He chuckles before taking another bite.

“We always heard people whisper about the times before the war and The New Order took over, when people actually had fun. Had balls and lavish parties. I’m just worried about there being room for everyone. With every single Hallan coming in from all corners of Hallalah, and all the humans, I don’t know if everyone will fit in the hall.”

“We can easily open the doors and let the ball spill out into the garden.”

“I can’t wait to see how many mates are found at the ball.”

“I’m most excited to see this dress you’ve been talking about.”

I bark out a laugh. “You’re more excited for when the ball is over and you’ll be taking the dress off.”

He smirks. “Who says I’m waiting for the end of the ball to take your dress off?”
