I’m busy searching for today’s binge-worthy show when my brand-new phone chimes from my lap. I glance down and find myself grinning, just like every time I look at this thing. Shay had gone out a few days ago and gotten me a brand new phone after mine, unfortunately, went swimming and is now living with the fishes. I had it in my hand during the crash and naturally when I started scrambling for a way to get free, I let it go. Who can blame me though? If it’s a choice between saving my life or saving my phone, I know which one I’d choose. Unfortunately, I probably couldn’t say the same for a few of the girls I go to school with.

Shay did well. It’s just a regular iPhone but it’s the case that gets me. I’m not usually one for using phone cases. I guess I live on the wild side there, but Shay insisted and considering she’s the one who’s paying for it, I’m happy to live by her rules. When she handed me the case after setting up the phone, I was expecting just a regular, plain one, but instead, I got an ass that wiggles while reminding me that I’m an asshole and to stop talking shit. I couldn’t believe it when I first saw it. It’s not something Shay would usually purchase so it’s clear she did it purely to make me laugh and I’ve never appreciated something more.

I grab the phone and slide my thumb across the screen to find a text from Nessa.

Nessa – Did Dr. Sexy release you from your chains?

Sky – Sure did. He was probably too scared of the consequences of telling me to stay a few more days.

I drop my phone back onto my lap and let out a sigh. This sucks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly enjoying all this stolen time with Slade, but being cooped up for the next few weeks isn’t exactly my idea of fun. I’m hoping that the doctor will be lenient after my check-up next week. Maybe he'll allow me to go back to school if I promise to take things easy. I mean, it’s not as though I was going to participate in health class anyway.

My attention falls back to the TV and I get lost in ‘The Witcher’ as Slade plays on his phone. “You know, you really don’t have to stay here. I’ll be fine. You should go to school. I’m sure your coach is probably pissed that you and Blake have missed so much training.”

“And miss spending my days being forced to watch ridiculous shows while you whine about your ribs and boredom? Not a fucking chance.”

“You’re an ass,” I laugh, playfully smacking his stomach.

Slade grins and rolls on top of me, being careful to keep himself up on his elbows and his body off me. “That may be true,” he murmurs, brushing his lips over mine. “But I’m an ass who can make you forget all about the pain.”

“Oh, really?” I whisper, taking his face and lifting my head to kiss him. “And how do you plan on doing that?”

Hunger spreads through his gaze and has my inner vixen preparing herself for a wild ride…well, I guess it won’t be completely wild considering the state I’m in, but it sure as hell will be fun. And forgetting? I know for certain that I will. Slade Cruz has a certain set of skills that can make a woman forget even the worst nightmares and he’s proven that time and time again.

His lips drop to mine before he starts creeping down my body, setting it on fire with every kiss, nip, and pinch. I lay my head back on the pillow, more than prepared to soak up every second of this.

His hands pull at my shorts when the door swings open and booming laughter comes tearing from my best friend. She’s standing at my bedroom door with Damian at her back and a bag full of delicious crap but none of that could possibly make up for what I’m now missing.

“Geez, you couldn’t be too sore if you’re about to get freaky.”

I narrow my eyes at the intruders as Slade rolls off me and puts himself right where he was before. “You guys mind knocking next time?” I grumble. “What are you even doing here? You guys should be at school.”

“Hey,” Nessa throws back as she barges her way into my room and practically throws Slade off my bed. “If you don’t have to be at school and Blake and Slade aren’t at school, then I don’t see why the hell Damian and I should have to suffer there on our own. Besides, if the school has an issue with it, I can claim that I’m emotionally distraught after hearing of my best friend’s tragic shooting. That should get me a few days off.”
