Damian scoffs. “Right, that’s why you’ve been begging me to come over every night and sending me snaps of you touching your tight little clit. Don’t get me wrong, I’d happily watch that shit on replay if you want to put it out there, but you’re used goods. You've got nothing I want or haven't seen."

“But…”

“Shoo,” he says, flicking his fingers. “Quit while you’re behind.”

Rachel’s face flushes and she lets out a frustrated groan before finally giving in and retreating after she stomps her foot. She hurries away, arms swinging back and forth, into her group of cheerleaders who are quick to re-inflate her ego and start cursing out Damian for speaking the truth.

She’s hardly been gone for a second before Nessa takes her place, staring up at Damian with her hands on her hips. “Your girl?” she seethes.

He cringes, knowing damn well she’s not about to be his girl. “I, uhh…” The bell rings and he sighs in relief before a wide, teasing grin spreads across his handsome face. He ducks down, presses a kiss to Nessa’s cheek and wiggles his brows. “Saved by the bell.”

I’ve never seen anyone disappear faster.

“Chicken shit,” Nessa calls after him, shaking her head as Slade chuckles at my back. She lets out a heavy groan before giving me a small smile and also walking away.

Slade nuzzles his face into my neck and kisses me there. “You know, maybe this Nessa and Damian thing is going to be better than I thought.”

“Why? Because she’ll tear him a new one with every single word he says?”

“Exactly.”

I shake my head and turn in his arms. “We started just like that.”

“Started?” he scoffs. “We’re still like that.”

“True,” I laugh. “But who knows? Maybe this might just be the start of something real.”

“Or it could serve as some pretty fucking epic entertainment.”

“You’re an idiot.”

“And you’re going to be late for homeroom.”

I let out a heavy sigh. I really don’t want to be here but anything is better than being stuck at home. “Guess I’ll see you soon then.”

“Try not to get into any fights.”

“Can’t make any promises,” I tell him, brushing a kiss over his lips and then stepping back into the near-empty corridor. “Love you.”

“Love you too, trouble.”

----------

The day drags.

I was kind of hoping my first day back after three weeks of nursing a bullet wound would be a little more exciting. Don’t get me wrong, people have been constantly asking me about getting shot, what it feels like drowning, how quickly I was revived, how terrified I was flying over the side of the bridge.

I think I’ve shown off my scar at least a hundred times, because well…why the hell not? I’ve got this awesome thing. I mean, getting shot sucked, like really sucked but it’s just another thing that sets me apart from everyone else. No one else in this school can claim they’ve been shot at. Well, technically Slade was shot at but he narrowly escaped my fate, Besides, he wouldn’t take away the one thing I can boast about.

I’m a fucking badass. I always was and despite how broken and fearful I am inside, the students around here are finally remembering that I’m the boss bitch of Aston Creek High, not the poor abused girl who I wrongfully introduced them to.

I walk out of the school with piles upon piles of school work to catch up on, though that’s my fault. Nessa suggested that she could run around and collect my work every day that I was out, but I insisted that she didn’t worry. I’m kind of regretting that decision now.

I’m going to be spending the next few weeks trying to catch up. Hopefully, I can get it all done and manage to keep on top of it all before graduation in a few months, otherwise, I’m fucked. I’d love to go to college and make something of myself but my future has been completely up in the air.

I started applying for colleges the second I got to Aston Creek but I felt like it was too late. The other students were already receiving their acceptance letters while I was only just handing in the application. My chances aren’t great but I have my fingers and toes crossed.

I’ve never applied before as my future was set. I was going to be married to a millionaire and be the best-behaved housewife this country has ever seen. Maria had me working with the maids and giving me cooking lessons, I would have to clean up after dinner and offer Lucien a drink in his study each night. Practice makes perfect. Hell, I was only days away from being transported into the ’60s with an apron, a full dress, and a beehive hairstyle.

I give Blake a quick call as I walk my ass home and after checking that he’s doing alright, I hang up and focus on putting one foot in front of another.
