“It’s special for us, but we’ve both known forever that we had different needs than others do. I need to be in charge and make sure that you take care of yourself. You need to have a break from all the very stressful, adult things you do to make the world a better place,” he added quietly.
“Do you ever think it’s weird that Colt, Harper, Amber, you, and I all ended up friends?”
“Weird? No. It was highly unlikely we’d ever be in the same place in the world at the same time, at the same age, with the same teacher…”
“Stop, Daddy. You’re right. We were just really lucky, weren’t we?” she asked before opening her mouth for more noodles.
“We were very lucky, Little girl. All of us. And Rio was fortunate to find his Little through a job as a bartender in a pub in Avondale.”
“I’m lucky,” Maisie said, and tears sprang to her eyes.
“I think I’m the one blessed by fortune, but I want to know why you think you’re lucky,” Beau asked.
“You waited for me to be ready. You could have married some lovely young woman from an excellent family who you met in college while we were apart. You could have had the average two kids and a normal career for a man in politics. Your life could have been so different.”
“That sounds pretty average to me. The problem with that is I fell in love with a prickly miss who thought people only cared about where she lived and who her parents were. She didn’t see the same person I saw when I looked at her,” Beau said with a smile that made her heart skip a beat.
“What did you see?”
“I didn’t understand it in the beginning. But I knew it was special and I needed to pay attention. I could have settled for someone else, but I wanted the challenge of a brilliant mind I’ll never hope to understand and the heart of the Little girl that needed me the most.”
Beau paused and wiped a tear away from her cheek. “I’ll tell you a secret if you’ll keep it safe.”
When she nodded eagerly, he continued, “I wouldn’t have been happy in that stereotypical family that everyone expects. I needed more. I needed you to make my life complete. I’d wait until our fiftieth reunion if it took that long to convince you to live our dreams.”
Maisie climbed from her chair into his lap and pressed the biggest kiss to his lips. “I love you, Daddy.”
“I love you, too, Little girl. Had enough noodles?” he asked.
“Maybe?” she said, waggling her eyebrows at him suggestively.
“Little girl! Are you propositioning your Daddy?”
“Yes, please,” Maisie answered with her best manners. She squealed as he lifted her into his arms to carry her to the ottoman.
“Here, Daddy?” she said, holding onto his torso as he laid her back on the large, padded rectangle.
“You make believe Daddy has a bad back and can only tote you this far and I’ll pretend I didn’t check this afternoon if this was the perfect height,” he said, settling on his knees between her legs.
“Daddy!” she said with mock scandal ringing in her tone.
“This damn dress has tempted me all night long. It almost caused a scandal a few times when you leaned over.” His hands made quick work of whisking up her long skirt. When he had it draped around her waist, Beau stopped to admire the wisp of lace that pretended to be panties she had worn.
“We’re buying a hundred pairs of these in every color they come in, Little girl.”
“I can just wear these for you, Daddy.”
His fingers hooked in the sides and ripped them away from her body. “No, you can’t. Daddy broke them.”
“Bad Daddy,” Maisie laughed then inhaled sharply as he leaned down to taste her.
All play evaporated from her mind as he pleasured her. His mouth and tongue teased her as his fingers explored. Maisie thrashed on the padding, trying to get closer to him, but Beau held her easily pinned in place.
Maisie could feel the sensations gathering, and knew she was close. Her body quivered around his fingers, stretching her tight channel. “What?” Maisie gasped as he lifted his head and glided his fingers from her. “I was almost there, Daddy.”
“How many times did you tease me this evening, Little girl?”
“I only showed you my panties once before we left,” she protested, knowing exactly what he was talking about.
“And how many times did you brush your hand over your breasts when I talked to my colleague from North Dakota?”
“There was a fly! I just brushed it off!”
“Ah! So, you admit it.”
Her mouth opened in disbelief as she stared at him. “You’re teaching me a lesson now?”
“You have exactly two more to learn,” he said, and winked.
“You’ve got to be…”
