“What are you doing, Miss Gardner?” he asked.

“I’m breaking my rules,” she said.

“You are?”

“Yes.” She straddled his waist, and he still didn’t put his hands on her, even though it was proving difficult not to. All he wanted to do was touch her.

“What’s the matter, Mr. Brown, don’t you want to fuck me?” she asked.

“Always.”

But for some horrible, godforsaken reason, he couldn’t seem to move his hands. Why couldn’t he move his hands?

“Roman!”

That was Abi’s voice, but her mouth wasn’t moving.

“Roman! You’ve fallen asleep.”

Abi disappeared from his vision and as he opened his eyes, he saw the desk beneath him, then he saw Abi, only she wasn’t straddling his lap. She was still dressed in her suit.

“You’re burning up,” she said.

Ah, that was right, Abigail’s menstrual cycle had been nearly two weeks ago now. She was due another one soon, and he’d get to watch new movies with her. He wasn’t watching movies, though. There was a nasty bug going around the office, and now that he was awake and not in his dream world, everything felt a little shitty.

Abigail wasn’t breaking their office agreement.

“Come on, you’re not working today,” Abigail said.

“I’ve got to work.”

“Roman, do you even remember the last person you saw today?” she asked.

“You. You came into my office, closed the blinds, locked the door, and you were going to have your way with me.”

“Okay,” Abigail said.

He groaned as she helped him up off the chair, and it felt like someone had put the thermostat up.

“We need to turn the thermostat down. It’s way too hot. No wonder we’re all going to die with global warming.”

“The thermostat is not on. We don’t put it on until it’s cold enough, but you’re burning up.”

She forced him out of the chair, and everything ached. Roman just wanted to collapse into a ball and be left alone, not touched.

“I’m getting you home.”

“I need to stay here.”

“You’re not staying here,” she said. “Come on.” She let out a little grunt, and he groaned.

This didn’t feel so good.

Abigail put him back in his seat and grabbed his cell phone. She put his thumb to the phone, and it scanned his identity, giving her access to his cell phone. He had nothing to hide.

“Carl, can you come up? We need to take him home. He’s burning up, and he’s way too sick to continue. I’m struggling to lift him, and I don’t think he’s well enough to make it to the elevator.”

This morning, he had woken up fine. Well, he hadn’t been totally fine. He ached all over, but that was no different to most days. He ached a lot, and perhaps he was just getting old and this was his body’s way of saying he needed to slow down.

“Hello, sir,” Carl said, and he was suddenly floating, apart from the fact his feet hurt. “One step in front of the other.”

“Abi?”

“I’m here. It’s okay. I’m here.”

Roman didn’t know how one moment he was in the office, and the next, he was in the back of the car. Abi was there by his side. Even though it hurt his arm, he banded it around her waist and pulled her in close.

“Roman!”

“I want to feel you against me. I understand if you just want to go home. You can. Trust me, I’m going to be miserable.”

“Just rest. I’m not going anywhere.”

He was pretty sure there might have been a brief kiss to the lips, but he wasn’t entirely sure. He wanted to fuck her.

No, he didn’t want to fuck her. There was no way his cock was even working, but he wanted to be with Abi for the rest of his life. He wanted to put a baby inside her. He wanted her to have no reason to walk away. Filled with his baby, there would be no chance of her ever walking away. He’d marry her.

The car changed to his apartment.

There was a moment when he was in the shower, or at least he thought it was, otherwise someone was waterboarding him. Only, it didn’t feel like torture. He still ached everywhere.

The water changed to that of his bed.

Roman was once again back in his office chair, and Abigail was back on his lap. “Where were we?” she asked.

“You tell me. You’re the one breaking all the rules.”

“Is that what you want me to do?” she asked. “Break all the rules?”

“I want you to trust me.”

“I do trust you.”

“Then know I would never do anything to make you uncomfortable. I want to be able to touch you, even when we’re in the office. I won’t let anything bad happen to you.”

He put his hands on her thighs, only they didn’t feel like Abi’s thighs.

The dream shifted, until there was total darkness, and then it felt like he was floating, and it was all just a strange dream.
