*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

I’m sitting in my uncomfortable desk chair, grading a seemingly endless stack of exams when my phone rings. My best friend’s picture pops up on the screen, and I answer, “Hello.”

“You know what day it is?” Raven starts singing the opening line to “Addicted 2 You,” the song that put Sp*nked at the top of the carts.

Fudgemuffin. I’m never going to be ready on time. I glance at the clock on the wall and see it’s already one-fifteen. Why is time suddenly spinning at the speed of light? Oh yeah. It’s because I have plans for once. I lean my phone against my shoulder and dig in my desk drawer for my headphones so I can multi-task and grade while I talk on the phone.

“I do,” I agree. “I’ve been counting the days since you invited me to the concert.” Raven recently signed Sp*nked to a recording contract with her family company, Inked Knight Records. The band is finishing up the North American leg of their tour in Houston, the lead singer’s hometown. “I’m trying to finish grading these exams, and then I’m going to head home to get ready.”

“Winter break started two hours ago. What are still doing at the high school?” Raven grumbles, and I roll my eyes.

“I have to grade final exams and turn in my semester grades before my vacation starts,” I tell her and glance down at the stack of papers, mentally calculating how long this is going to take me.

“Well, get your rear into gear and hurry up.” I really wish it was that easy. As the newest teacher in the Silver Spoon Falls High School English Department, I have to work hard to prove myself at the exclusive school.

“Not all of us have a rich husband. Some of us still have to work.” Since I refuse to take money from my parents, I work and support myself, but I’ve got a little bit of the green-eyed monster in me over my best friend’s good fortune.

A while back, she came to Silver Spoon Falls to meet the members of Sp*nked to discuss their recording contract at a BDSM club and fell for the club owner. Lucky girl. I can’t blame her for coming home and packing her bags to move to the small, very wealthy Texas town where the men are hot as Hades and rich as Croesus.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m thrilled for my best friend, but I’m also a little jealous. She’s managed to find the love of her life and has an adorable baby. “I work, too,” Raven grumbles, and I roll my eyes. She works part-time at home for her family company. It’s a great gig if you can get one. “And don’t you dare roll your eyes at me.”

She knows me so well. We’ve been attached at the hip since kindergarten. We attended the same high school and college where we shared a dorm room. When she moved to Silver Spoon Falls, I discovered life without my bestie around sucks. I missed Raven like crazy, which is how I ended up moving here.

At the end of last school year, a long-time teacher retired, leaving a teaching position open in the Silver Spoon Falls High School English Department. I jumped at the chance to move closer to Raven and applied for the job. With over seventy applicants, I didn’t think I’d have a shot at the position, but miracles do happen. They offered me the job.

As soon as last school year finished, I packed my bags and rented a house in the small Texas town. Raven helped me settle in and prepare for my first year in the exclusive high school. So far, I’m halfway through the year and things are going great. Well, mostly. I still have to finalize semester grades before the four o’clock deadline.

“Are you going to survive leaving Chelsea at home?” I’m surprised Roman agreed to leave his little princess at home.

“Hawk and Tia are going to fight over her all weekend long.” Raven’s oldest brother and his wife are Chelsea’s godparents, and they flew into town to babysit the baby so we could go to the concert.

“I had a long talk with my little one, and she’s going to be a good girl for Hawk and Tia so I can enjoy the concert.” Raven laughs.

“Hopefully, she listens.” I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I don’t miss the opportunity to watch the show from the front row and meet the band after the concert. “I’ll be ready at four-thirty.” Not happening unless I pull a miracle out of my tush and finish grading these exams by three o’clock.

“Uh-huh.” Raven laughs. “Then I’ll be there at five to pick you up.” My bestie knows punctuality isn’t my strong suit. If we leave right at five, we should make it to Houston in time to see the beginning of the concert.
