He couldn’t see how much he meant to her.

How much these nights, this stolen time together, meant.

More than he’d ever know.

Whether he liked it or not, she wanted to keep it that way.

She slowly pushed open the door to find his room as dark as always when she entered. She slipped inside and closed the door quietly behind her, pausing to turn the lock.

She gasped when a weight slammed her hard enough to push all the air from her lungs. She found her back pressed against the door, her thumping heart stuck in her throat. “E…”

“Every time you sneak out of the house, sneak into the bunkhouse, climb into my bed… Every time you sneak back out of my room, The Barn and back into the house, you risk gettin’ caught. You risk us both. You know that. You know that and you keep fuckin’ doin’ it.”

He had no idea that she’d already been caught by Cage. She hadn’t told him and didn’t plan to. It would only give him another reason to end things. Even so, she still forced out, “Then we’ll stop,” like she didn’t give a shit if they did. As if it would be no big deal when, truthfully, it would.

His thumb pressed against the pounding pulse in her neck. “I keep fuckin’ sayin’ that but you keep comin’ back. You, Tess, not me. You come to me, I don’t go to you.”

She didn’t need that reminder. The fact that she couldn’t stay away from him ate at her. Every time she told herself to ignore the pull that dragged her from her room to the bunkhouse, she took that journey anyway.

“You keep letting me in,” she whispered

He turned to concrete against her. Not only his cock, hard the second he pushed against her, but every damn one of his muscles, too.

“This wasn’t supposed to…”

She wanted to scream, “This wasn’t supposed to happen!” Instead, she sucked in a breath, very aware of his grip on her throat. It was firm but not restrictive. She saw it for what it was, a way to make her pay attention to his words, to him.

She tried again. “I didn’t want…”

I didn’t want this to become a habit.

I didn’t want to feel this way.

I didn’t want any of this.

“No fuckin’ shit. Know what the fuck you wanted. To climb on and off my dick when it suits you. To use me as you see fit. But you keep forgettin’ one thing, Tess. You forget it ain’t just my dick you’re usin’, I’m attached to it.”

No, she hadn’t forgotten.

He wasn’t a random. She had chosen him for a reason.

At first, she thought it because he’d be easy, when in truth, if she looked deep enough and admitted it to herself, she chose him because he was Easy.

Ever since she came to Manning Grove and joined the Fury, she’d been drawn to everything about him. He was so much more than his looks, more than his normally easy-going personality. Especially to her.

But she couldn’t tell him any of that because he’d want more than what she could give him. At least for right now. “I don’t want to have this conversation.”

“No shit. You just wanna fuck,” said the man who, ironically, loved to fuck.

“That’s all it is, E.” Those were the words that came out of her mouth because that was what needed to be true.

It wasn’t. Not to her. But, again, he didn’t need to know that.

He didn’t need to hold that power over her.

She closed her eyes and pictured Syn’s collar. Saw the “property of” cuts the sisterhood wore. The permanent wedding band tattooed around Stella’s ring finger.

The babies, the baby bumps…

The possessiveness. The over-protectiveness.

All of it.

She wasn’t ready for any of that.

Maybe at some point down the road she’d be able to deal with it, but certainly not now.

She had nothing against being with a biker, she had a problem with being “restrained.”

As strong as each and every woman was in the Fury sisterhood, she wasn’t ready to join them as an ol’ lady, the club’s equivalent of being married. It was bad enough she had to deal with Cage, Trip, Stella and Jemma sticking their nose in her life and trying to tell her what she could and couldn’t do.

She didn’t want to add another person to that list. Someone who thought they’d have the ultimate say.

She should have the ultimate say since it was her damn life!

“Should kick you the fuck out,” he growled in her ear, causing her nipples to pucker tightly and sparks to shoot down her spine.

“But you won’t,” she whispered with more confidence than she should possess.

His sharp, “Fuck,” told her what she already knew. He was frustrated and annoyed because he couldn’t push her away, as much as he wanted to.

She got it. She wished she could resist that trek. Resist him.
