Lark knew he was trying not to rush her, but he’d made it clear he wanted her to move into this house with him. He never called it his house. He always referred to is as their house.

It was hard for Lark to believe this new way of life could really be hers. She’d never thought she’d meet someone who could so perfectly suit her in every way. She was still struggling to accept and believe it.

Lark had spent her entire adult life trying to ensure she was self-sufficient and not letting anyone try to control her. It was why she rarely dated. Men sometimes asked her out, and occasionally she would go out with them once or twice, but they never gave her that certain spark.

Until she met Wyatt. He gave her way more than a spark. He made her lust after him all the time. She found herself even more aroused lately since he’d put down his no-masturbating rule. Somehow knowing she wasn’t permitted to touch herself made her even more needy.

She wiggled on her seat even now as she colored because her mind was thinking about her Daddy’s broad chest and the way he cupped her breasts with his huge hands. Her breath hitched as she pictured him thumbing her nipples.

Suddenly, Wyatt was by her side. He cupped her face and tipped her head back. His brows were drawn together in confusion, and he was grinning.

Lark was gripping her pencil so tight it was a wonder it didn’t snap in half. She swallowed hard, feeling her cheeks heat.

“What is my Little kitten thinking about over here?” he teased. “You’re squirming all over your seat and making cute little purring sounds.”

“Nothing, Daddy,” she lied.

He chuckled and bent to kiss her. “Time to put your coloring away. Dinner’s ready.”

She glanced at the kitchen area, noticing the amazing scent of chicken nuggets—though she also could smell steamed broccoli. How long had she been sitting here daydreaming?

Daddy put her colors and book away before sliding her plate in front of her. He’d put each food in one of the new compartmented plates he’d bought her and cut everything up in small bites. “Be careful. It’s still hot,” he warned.

“Yes, Sir.” She picked up her fork and stabbed into a piece of broccoli. She wanted to eat all the broccoli first and get it out of the way. It wasn’t that she didn’t like broccoli. It was fine. But she really liked the chicken and saved it for last.

She was still thinking while she ate. Not about Daddy touching her, but about his plans for the future. She still had a lot of furniture and clothes and dishes and other household items that would eventually be sold or combined with his. And then there was her house. Was she ready to sell it and move in with Wyatt permanently?

That was a huge step. She’d worked hard to be able to buy her own home. Her mother had never been in a position to take care of herself, so Lark had made certain she could.

Wyatt was bossy. Very bossy. But somehow, it was nothing like how her father had been. She was slowly growing to understand, but it took reminding herself every day. Wyatt adored her. His eyes twinkled when he smiled at her, and that was often. He cherished every second they were together.

Nope. There was no comparison to her childhood experience with her own parents. None. But she still needed time to believe she could have this entire package. Be self-sufficient and know she could and would take care of herself if anything ever happened to Wyatt, while at the same time turning over her care to him so she could relax and not have to be in control every second of the day.

Maybe this was her heaven. Maybe she deserved it.

Chapter Fourteen

Wyatt watched his Little girl closely all evening. He knew she was struggling. He could see it in her expression every day. She had trouble believing they could really be a couple together—perfect in every way.

It was his job to show her he meant to take care of her, love her, nurture her, and support her. He also wanted her to feel empowered, to know that she didn’t need him. That she could make it on her own. But she didn’t have to.

Some days he wished he could speed up time, but she had to work through this process and he had to be patient.

After dinner, he led her to the nursery, picked up the book he’d been reading to her for the past few nights, and settled her in his lap. He knew she loved this part of the day. She smiled the entire time and kept glancing at his face as if to confirm he was real.

“Your mind has been racing ever since you got home, kitten,” he pointed out.
