“That doesn’t sound bad.” Wesley’s calm response made it easier to relax. “He’s a genuine kind of guy from what everyone says. I haven’t met him too many times, but he seems nice and Preston would’ve said something if Cohen was a player or just an ass.”

“Oh, and I forgot. He said he would help me figure out fun-shaped cookies for my little date with Ian.” He wouldn’t help me if he was frustrated, right?

The line went quiet and I could almost hear Wesley’s brain running in circles. But when he finally spoke, I almost wished he’d stayed silent. “Does Cohen like Ian?”

Did he what?

Wesley must’ve realized he’d fried my brain because he continued. “He called him cute, right? And he wanted to help. I think it’s plausible.”

Maybe.

Pushing the weirdness aside, I shrugged. “Well, at least he would understand what I see in Ian.”

Wesley coughed, badly covering a laugh. “Should I ask what you see in Ian since you have Cohen waiting to play with your pup?”

“No.” Because I didn’t have a good answer for that. “I’m helping him.”

Right?

“Just keep telling yourself that.” Wesley continued to giggle as I called him an ass and disconnected the phone…not because I was pissed…I was at Cohen’s house.

****

“You look much more thoughtful than when I left you at the restaurant.” Cohen didn’t mince words as he pulled me into his arms.

Giving me a quick kiss, he closed the door and held me tight. “Am I supposed to pretend I haven’t noticed the change in your mood?”

It would’ve been easier if he’d decided to go that route…but since he hadn’t…

Fuck it.

“Why don’t you mind my date thing with Ian?” Leaning into him, I tried to make sure he knew I wasn’t trying to put space between us, physically or emotionally. “I just need to understand so I don’t obsess and fuck things up.”

Life would’ve been easier if I was more subtle.

But I wasn’t.

Cohen didn’t get frustrated…but his lips might’ve turned up at the corners before he pulled me closer and hid his face against my neck.

He was such a brat.

When his chest stopped jerking, he straightened, looking perfectly composed. “That’s a logical question. Let’s sit down and talk about it.”

Let’s talk was never a good sign, but in this case, it didn’t seem to have the same connotation…especially when he’d said my question was logical. “Alright.”

Had anyone I’d dated ever thought I was logical?

He took my hand and led me into his living room, still radiating a calm strength that made it impossible to worry. I must’ve done something to give away my attempt at worrying because he squeezed my hand and chuckled. “Stop overthinking this.”

“I’m very good at overthinking, so I’m not sure I can promise that.” It was a natural strength. I shrugged as he gave me a teasing glare. “Um, I’ll try?”

Scoffing, he shook his head. “Come on.”

He finally stopped as he brought me over to the couch. “How should we do this?”

It seemed to be a rhetorical question, so I waited while he looked back and forth between me and the floor. After a moment, he finally raised one eyebrow. “How do you feel about sitting on the floor between my legs for this conversation? I need a deeper couch if we’re going to cuddle right.”

He was so funny.

“I’m fine with sitting at your feet, Master.” The words made him grin, but it was the slave girl from a dirty movie tone that had him snickering.

“Don’t distract me with your dirty fantasies, pup.” His quick comeback had me blushing. I wasn’t sure I was the slave girl type, but I could be talked into a lot with the right sexy smile.

Like the one Cohen was giving me.

“Yes, Sir.” I gave him a quick peck, trying to show him I wasn’t as worried as he probably thought I was, before sitting down on the floor. “See, I can behave.”

Sometimes.

His snort said he was thinking the same thing.

When he was settled in front of me and I’d been resettled so I could sit on a pillow from the couch, he stroked his hand over my head. “Still want me to answer your question, pup?”

Nodding, I curled into his legs and rested my head on his thigh. As I peered up at him, I found myself relaxing even more. Something about the position made it impossible to stay worried. “It doesn’t seem as important now, but I know once you’re not around to distract me just by looking so sexy, I’ll start obsessing again, so yeah, I still want an answer.”

Instead of rolling his eyes, which was what most people would’ve done, he smiled and ran his fingers along the side of my face. “I love the way you answer so honestly. I never have to worry about how accurate your answers are.”

Hmm.

I’d never seen it that way.
