I glance up from the computer when the door to Archer’s office opens. I’m still going to work with him. He really doesn’t spend a ton of time here. A few hours a day and he does some stuff at home on the computer. I had no idea how smart he was. He’s crazy good with numbers. I force myself to keep a smile on my face when I see it’s Felicity. If Archer was in here, she would have knocked because last time she didn’t, she got a major ass chewing.

“Hi!” I chirp a bit too loudly.

I’ve always been a bit awkward at times. I didn’t inherit that from my mom. She used to talk to everyone. Ollie is also good at small talk. They’ve always been a bit of a buffer for me to the rest of the world. That said, I've never had a problem getting along with people. But I usually don’t go out of my way to make conversation.

For the past week, I’ve taken extra care to be nice to Felicity in hopes that we could be on friendlier terms. I thought maybe I was the one being rude at first because I can be a bit territorial when it comes to Archer. I don’t think I have that problem anymore. Call me crazy, but I can’t see Archer crossing a line to risk losing me.

If he wanted to fuck Felicity, he would have by now. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t ask him about it. That hadn’t gone over well. He gave me a look that said I was nuts. All that tangled together has tamped down my emotions on the issue. Still, she hates me. I get more of it when Archer isn’t around. I’ve debated telling him, but people like her always end up being their own undoing.

“Savannah.” Her smile is tight. She drops a few files down on Archer’s desk. When I say drop, that's putting it nicely. She basically tosses them. A few papers slip out. I make a grab for them before they can fall on the floor. She turns without another word to me, leaving as quickly as she came.

“Whatever,” I mumble as I try to get the papers together and straighten them out.

I can’t help but pause when I see one is a map. It’s of my grandfather's land. I stare at it to make sure that’s what I’m actually seeing. When I realize I’m right, I start shuffling through more of the papers inside of the folders.

“What the hell?”

It’s a mix of things with information on my grandfather, and there’s even a copy of my mother’s death certificate. What leaves me most confused is the marriage license with my name on it and William’s. Which I know is bullshit and crazy. I’d know if I were married. There are also a few emails from Archer about buying the property. My stomach drops when I see the bank's response.

“It’s mine.” The words come out of my mouth, but I can’t wrap my head around the idea of me owning everything. Holy crap. The old man really was unpredictable. Never in a million years would I have expected him to leave me anything. I could have sworn he was trying to get me off the land before he even kicked the bucket. So to say I’m shocked is an understatement.

My head starts to spin, and my stomach starts to turn as things begin to come together. Archer and Jason want to buy my grandfather's land which apparently was left to me? Only by default. Archer’s persistent pursuit of me suddenly makes a lot more sense. I think I’m going to be sick. I gather everything up before grabbing my purse.

I have to get out of here. When I rush out of the office, I almost collide with Felicity. “I don’t know if I should thank you or call you a bitch.”

“Just leave,” she responds. “That's all I’ve ever wanted. He was supposed to be mine until this bullshit.”

It’s on the tip of my tongue to tell her she can have him, but I can’t get myself to say it. I shake my head and turn to leave, not letting myself say something out of character for me. I won’t let her turn me into that type of person.

When I get outside, I quickly realize I have no way of leaving. So I do the only thing I can think to do and text Ollie to come get me. She’s not far from me. I start to worry when she doesn’t respond and think maybe I should call a ride share or something. I need to get over my fear of driving, but that's for a whole other day. Right now I have to figure out what the hell is going on. Archer can clearly spin a web that has me believing in the impossible.
