“I just know it,” Colm insisted before stepping into the last lounge room in the hallway on the left. He shut the door behind me and switched off the light, basking us in darkness.

“Pretty sure you’re not supposed to do that,” I said, my heart rate already spiking as I heard him move around in front of me.

“Hasn’t stopped us the last few times we’ve done this,” Colm chuckled before reaching out to place his hands on my upper arms, finding me through the darkness.

I swallowed hard as he came closer, our chests touching and then his nose brushing against mine. The moment his lips touched mine, my breathing stopped. All I could do was marvel at how warm his mouth felt against mine.

Colm pressed his body flush against mine, curling his arms around my neck and drifting his fingers up into my hair.

I finally snapped myself into action, my hands gliding up his back and making his shirt ride up slightly. I wanted to tear it off, but I didn’t need a staff member walking in on us naked. Instead, I pushed my hand up the back of his shirt, feeling the lean muscle around his shoulder blades.

Colm gripped my short, light brown hair and parted his lips against mine, pushing his tongue against mine.

A faint groan broke from me. I could taste the sweet tang from the lemonade he was drinking, prompting me to cup his face with my free hand to keep our lips melded together. He was clean-shaven. Smooth.

“Why do you have to have class?” Colm sighed into the kiss.

I slid my hand around to the back of his head, holding him in place as my mouth trailed down to his neck. The heavy thud of my heartbeat in my head muffled the sound of his voice, and all I could focus on was how badly I wanted him. All of the stress from school and the upcoming season was crushing, and there wasn’t anything more relieving than being in bed with him, having his body beneath mine and hearing his broken moan near my ear as he finished.

Colm gripped my shirt, his lips falling apart in a soft moan.

“Jed…” he breathed out.

It took everything in me to not mark him up, to claim him for everyone else to see. The team would know where he got them from, but what if someone else asked? I drew away from his neck, my fingertips lingering on the back of his head.

“I should get to class,” I said before reaching past him to switch on the light. Bad grades meant no hockey, even if leaving Colm killed me. The erection I had straining against my jeans was evidence of that.

“With that?” Colm asked with a teasing grin as he gestured to the ridge in the front of my pants.

“In a few minutes,” I replied as I backed up to perch on the edge of a round table, breathing in deeply through my nose to calm myself.

Colm tilted his head at me a little, those blue eyes of his sweeping over me. I didn’t miss the sultry glint in them.

“You might have to leave,” I said, still feeling heated under his gaze. Just looking at him could turn me on.

Colm laughed, looking quite pleased. He came close and pecked me on the cheek just to tease me.

“See you tomorrow,” he told me before slipping out of the room and shutting the door behind him.

I exhaled slowly, closing my eyes and trying to think about anything but Colm. There wasn’t anything more sobering than thinking about the season ahead, and things were even more tense now because of Leah. The last thing I wanted was more drama, but I did have to stand by my team.

That wasn’t negotiable.

Chapter 4

Leah

A mix of red, orange, and yellow leaves fluttered through the air in front of me as Jourdanne and I walked toward the stadium for one of my practices.

The team was getting stronger and stronger with each session as we started figuring out how to work together to accommodate each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We had to be one joined unit, not a collection of separate pieces. That would make it easier for us to fall apart.

“It sucks that Marina moved dorms. We’ll hardly see her now,” Jourdanne sighed, the wind brushing her hair back from her face.

I nodded in agreement. All of us were already getting so busy too with our classes and our own lives. Jourdanne spent a lot of time out of the dorm doing her thing, so we didn’t see each other all that much either. We caught up when we could, like when we walked each other to class or practice before heading our own way.

“I think I saw her walking to Jones Hall the other day with some guy,” I replied.
