“Doesn’t matter who takes lead,” Bane broke in. “The plan is always the same. Liam in the front, me in the back, you inside. I sent two of my men to babysit the place. It’s not empty. The warehouse is owned by a rice company. The workers cleared out two hours ago. Bobby says no one in or out since.”

“Why’s this guy visiting an empty rice warehouse at night?” Liam asked.

“An excellent question,” I replied. “We’ll ask him that after ‘why did you throw me off a fucking bridge?’ and ‘did you try to blow up my brother and niece?’”

Liam bared his teeth. “At that point, I’ll take over the questioning.”

“You didn’t recognize him, Sunny? You sure you’ve never seen this guy before?”

“I’m sure. I was sure when I saw Kenzie’s sketch and I’m certain now. He’s not a known player. Fuck knows where this guy came from. Grant could’ve hired him from out of town, ensuring we didn’t see him coming.”

“Lochlan Grant,” Liam said. “Months of attacks, raids, hijackings, revenue loss, four deaths, and two attempted, all because of some two-bit loan shark who took one too many hits from Genny?”

“Vito claims I was the final push over the edge,” I said. “Grant announced that he refused to give me my cut, so Makai and I kicked his ass. Then, I busted his safe, helped myself to two hundred grand, and said my cut was now eighty percent. After, I reminded him that he’d live with a few of his organs missing. If he made me come back, I cut him open and make my money through what I could sell.”

I shrugged. “Apparently, this hurt his widdle feelings, the stupid-ass, oversensitive, shit-in-his-pants baby.”

“A murder rampage does seem an extreme reaction to a beating, two hundred grand, and a threat you didn’t go through with,” Liam said. “Where is Grant?”

“Rockchapel. Delaney gave up the address, but the free pass is over. He won’t let us into Rockchapel to pick him up. Says if we want him, we’ll have to lure him out.”

“If Grant is smart, and so far he has been,” Bane said, “he wouldn’t leave that borough for his mother’s funeral.”

“Let’s test that theory.” Liam swept out, leaving that statement hanging behind.

The three of us headed down in the elevator. Sienna and Mackenzie were waiting for us.

“We’re coming with you,” Kenzie said. “I’m not letting you go alone. He’s tried to kill you and Liam already.”

I pulled her in, kissing her forehead. “Wasn’t planning on going alone. Bane’s got two of his guys. Liam’s invited Donaldson and Lindsay. Makai and Ryker are meeting us there. Too many people and we risk getting noticed, but he’ll still be outnumbered.”

“Even more so if Sienna and I go too.”

“Okay.”

“Really?”

“Sunny,” Liam barked. “It’s too dangerous.”

“That’s why we’ll need a getaway driver. This thing goes sideways, we’ll get out of there quick.” I smiled at my girl—beyond pleased at the fact that she was my girl. “You up for it?”

“Yes. I am fully certified in driving getaway cars.”

“Since when?” Bane asked.

“Since Xbox.”

They laughed, then abruptly cut themselves off and looked anywhere but at each other.

Also interesting.

“Let’s move,” Liam said. “It’s almost nine.”

We broke apart in the garage—Liam and Bane going one way, Sienna and Mackenzie coming with me. I led them to my pride, my joy, the light in my eye: my Maserati Quattroporte GTS.

I hopped on the red leather seats, shivering just feeling her cradle my ass again. “I missed you, baby.”

“You’re not talking to me, are you?” Mackenzie’s question slid in ahead of her.

“Nah. Fucked you an hour ago. Me and Masie been apart for weeks.”

“Men and their cars. It borders on a fetish.”

“She’s just jealous,” I whispered to Masie. “’Cause I loved you first.”

I didn’t have to see my lady to know she was rolling her eyes. Kicking Masie on, I pulled back on the gear and the movement stabbed spikes up my spine, gritting my teeth.

Almost. It’s almost over. Once I have him, my family’s safe, and Mackenzie doesn’t have to put herself out there anymore, then I’ll lie around for weeks, rehabbing a useless arm. Tonight I need to throw.

I need to fight.

Harlow Warehouse District was a ghost town that time of night—complete with whistling wind and tumbleweeds. No one had legitimate business here after the doors closed and everyone trudged home.

“That’s why you have to stay out of sight.” I parked beside Warehouse Sixteen on the far side. It gave her a view to Warehouse Nineteen’s side entrance but was far enough that if shit went down, she had plenty of time to get away. “Leave me if you have to, Kenzie. I mean it.” I raised my voice over her coming rejection. “You’ve got Sienna and Laurel to think about. I’ve asked you to do a lot of things for me, but never to give your life.”
