“Got it. Now, about Ny.”

“No,” I bark and down my drink.

Chapter 13

Incomplete

Gio

“What’s your problem?” I turn to look at Jace as he drives to the office this morning.

He’s been acting pissy all morning. I’m not in the mood for his shit. I had the most vivid dream about Ny last night. At first, we were fucking, I could feel her around me, soaking my cock. Then we were on a beach, and she was running with a swollen belly. I’ve been on edge since I woke up.

“Why won’t you just swallow your pride and tell her to come home,” he mutters.

“You know why.”

“Bullshit.”

“Obviously, you have something you want to say. Say it.”

“Neither of you thinks of me. You’re both missing the point. I matter in this. I’m losing time here too.”

“Then why the hell do this?” I bark and turn to glare at him.

“Because it’s what I know. It’s familiar,” he yells back. “I can’t remember a time in my life when someone wasn’t there for me to make sure I was okay—that I was fed, looked after, loved. Even when my mother and father were busy. There was someone there.

“Ava, Beth, Lucas, Gwen, even Sabrina and Dutch. When Fredrick entered the picture, I didn’t see how toxic he was until the end because your mom pulled me in, and I spent most of my time with you guys. I never had to question where my care and love would come from. On top of that, I’ve always had you, then a year later, we got Ny.

“Having a unit is all I know. When I lost my mom and dad, that security was ripped from me, but you and Ny promised to always be with me. I believed you.”

“How was I supposed to know you’d take it like that? We were kids. Wait… Sabrina and Dutch? Aren’t they the ones Nyla babysat for? The poly couple she met?”

“Yeah, they were friends of Papa’s.”

“Pull over so I can fuck you up. All of this started because of them and their family. I know you, motherfucker. You’re just like me. You’ve been playing me all this time.”

“I was seven,” he barks.

“What?”

“I was seven when I first walked in on my parents discussing if they were going to bring in two others. The couple was there, and they didn’t want kids. They only wanted a part of the business and to live in the house.

“It was the first time I saw Mom and Dad on one page. It was me and the business or nothing. To hear them explain how it all was important and how they wanted their unit to be of one accord so as to always make me feel like a part of that unit, stuck with me.

“Then that day on the merry-go-round happened. We worked together for Nyla just like they explained. It was then I knew what I wanted. You guys promising to never leave me made me think I could have it.”

“What the fuck were they feeding us? I need to know, because not one of us thinks like other humans.”

“And name the one time in your life that you cared.”

“Stugats. I’ve got nothing for you. Not a single fucking moment.”

I turn to look out the passenger window. “I’m watching you from now on. My own damn friend, manipulating me.”

He snorts. From his reflection in the mirror, I can see him smiling.

“I’m still not forcing this on you. I just miss her. You’ve made all your own choices from the start.”

“Fuck outa here. Just shut up, Jace.”

As mad as I want to be. Nyla would have found her way to all this on her own. I know she would have because it doesn’t feel right any other way. That’s the part I’m truly pissed about.

I can totally see how my dad ended up in this situation. Ny was right all those years ago. This has nothing to do with sex. I get it now. We’ve been missing something in the last year.

“G.”

“What?”

“You understood this out the gate. Communication is important. Ours has broken down.”

I pull a sour face. “I know. I’m ready and she’s not. I want to talk to her in person. Her taking off… it’s not showing me she’s ready.”

“Then take the lead,” he growls.

I turn to him slowly and glare. “Excuse me, motherfucker.”

My phone buzzes with a text when I get pissed all over again and get ready to curse him out. Seeing it’s Dante, I reel it in for now.

Dante: I have a question.

Instead of texting, I call him. I need to get my mind off what I’ve just realized in this conversation before I beat Jace in the head with my Glock. I still remember that couple and how much I hated them after Ny joined those forums to start digging and learning about the life.
