This motherfucker.

Jace

I know he’s pissed, but I’m trying to pivot here. I need to place my cards on the table to see if this will get Gio and Nyla to grow up. We all revert to the teens we were when this all started because it was the last time we knew true stability.

We can’t keep doing that if we’re going to make it. I’m not losing my family. We’re going to figure this out.

“We’re not done talking about this,” Gio fumes as we climb into the elevator to head up to the office.

“I didn’t think we were. I want her home.”

“You’re starting to sound like a broken record. I know what you want. I want her home too. Are you forgetting I just found out where the fuck she’s been?”

“If she’s still there.”

“What?” He turns to me slowly. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“You two are like children. She’s probably taken off by now.”

“Fuck you.”

“Fuck you too.”

The elevator dings and he steps out, his demeanor totally unbothered. I follow after him expressionlessly. Shrugging it off, I go back to playing my part.

“Good morning,” Gio croons as if we weren’t just arguing. We head for his office side by side as usual. Gio turns to Lizzy at her desk as we pass.

“You, bring all that into my office. We can go through them together.”

She collects her things and scurries behind us. I hold the door open for her as she hurries inside. Gio removes his suit jacket and puts it away.

Lizzy takes a seat in front of his desk. I take my usual place on the couch in the sitting area of his office. I remain silent even while stewing.

“No, to this. We’re not going to waste his time with this. Hell, no to this one. Honestly, why do they still bother with sending an invite every year. He never goes.”

Lizzy snickers. “Some people like to hold on to hope.”

I silently scoff. I’ve been doing it for years. As much as I love these two, they’re driving me crazy.

Gio needs to show Nyla he loves her and Nyla needs to tell him how she feels. Period. It’s not as hard as they’re making it. I get all the shit we have going on, that can’t be helped, but the way we’re handling things, I have to ask myself why I’m still here.

“Well, at this point, they’ll die holding their breath.”

As will I, I guess. I frown as they sit there laughing. I’m glad they can find humor in life. I’m losing sight of mine.

I tune them out, fed up with this morning already. I pull my phone out to play some chess on the app. Instead, I open my pictures and start to scroll through them.

I come across the pictures from Miami after Dante married Bethany. The three of us look so happy. Gio didn’t look like the world was on his shoulders and Nyla looked content.

Even with a bruised face, she was gorgeous. I move to a picture of one night while there. It’s the three of us again. Nyla is smiling up at me and Gio has his face buried in her neck.

We were sitting in the sand when I took the picture. I remember the night clearly. Not long after, we moved into the house and the three of us showered together.

Nyla squatted down between us and palmed both of our cocks in her hands. She went back and forth between us, giving us both pleasure in the shower. I bit my lip while groaning and running the backs of my fingers over her cheek.

At some point, Gio stood her up, bent her over and entered her from behind. Ny turned her attention to sucking me off while crying out around me. She looked so beautiful, taking Gio while looking up at me through her lashes.

“Hello.” Lizzy’s voice brings me back to the present. I glance up to find her on her phone. She holds a finger up to Gio as if to ask for a second. He takes her tablet and starts to tap at it.

“Nothing, I’m with Gio working on my boss’s schedule,” she replies to whoever’s on the other line.

I hold my breath, wondering if it’s Ny. Lizzy is the one person who can get my stubborn-ass baby back to me. If only I could ask her to do this for me.

“Of course,” Lizzy replies to something else, but I still can’t be sure it’s Nyla. Not until she covers the phone and leans in toward Gio. “Ny says hi.”

My heart starts again, along with my breathing. Gio sits almost frozen. Don’t fuck this up, man. Lizzy glances at me, but I’m too invested to look away. Gio quickly recovers and clears his throat.

“Hello, Nyla. Will you be home for the holidays?” Gio says.

Thank God.

He’s finally going to stop being a dick. He’s giving her what she wants. I start to get hard thinking of a repeat of Miami. I’d take a day with my face between her legs if that’s all I can get.
