Morwenna swiped at her cheeks, as more tears fell. She felt sick to her stomach.
There had been no children between her and Casey. Nine years ago, there had been a false positive on a pregnancy test. The doctor confirmed she wasn’t pregnant with a blood test, and she and Casey remained married.
For nine years, they had gone through so much. They finished high school together, and when she could have gone away to college, she didn’t. Casey asked her not to, he didn’t want to risk his place at the Evil Dwellers MC, where his father was president. So, she stayed in Dwellers Point, and Casey got to earn his patch, which took him four years. It was grueling task after grueling task. At times, she thought it was torture, but the Evil Dwellers MC had their own code. They needed men they could rely on. There was no room for weakness, only strength and brutality.
She was no fool about what went down at the club. Although she never saw them kill anyone, the rumors were rife, and she was aware that a couple of the members were still serving sentences.
Cops had been around her place while Casey was there. Life had been shit for a time, but he promised it would get better.
Instead of going to college, she worked as a receptionist at a garage owned by the club. She did that to help them out, because on the side, she had a successful food blog, which is what she’d been working on all the way through high school. She earned a good living from it, and although she didn’t do television appearances, or many interviews—as Casey’s wife, she had to be picky about what she did—more and more people came back for more. All of her recipes were tested at the club. They’d give their honest opinion. She’d perfect recipes, get more feedback, and when she was a hundred percent sure, she would then share that recipe with the rest of her audience. She loved it.
None of that mattered now.
She opened her eyes and reached for her cell phone to see so many people were calling her. Casey’s mom, Storm. Several of the guys, a couple of the women, even Maverick, Casey’s father, had tried to call her. There were a couple of missed calls from her own parents. Instead of listening to the noise, she pressed down on the power button, and as soon as it came up with a screen that asked her to sleep, shutdown, or restart, she pressed “shutdown.” The urge to launch the phone into the lake and watch it sink beneath the water was so strong. She was never wasteful, though. Phones cost money, and she was always looking for ways to save.
Even though Casey said they didn’t need the money, because everything was working at the club, that didn’t stop her from constantly trying to save. She was used to it, and her mother had taught her how to stretch a meal, which was why her food was so popular on her channel. She had shortcut ideas and cost-cutting ideas.
Running fingers through her hair, she took a deep breath and expelled it, opening her eyes, and still everything was blurry. Pressing the heels of her hands against her eyes, she growled, keeping her teeth clenched as the pain overwhelmed her.
She wanted to stop thinking. This was not helping as every time she closed her eyes or opened them, all she could see was Casey’s naked ass as he pumped into Star. The two looked so comfortable together. Morwenna knew she was a fucking idiot. She could tell by how comfortable they were that this was not a one-time thing. Casey had been fucking Star for a while now, and that pain was slicing right through her chest.
Going home was not an option. Staying at the lake was not an option either. She was alone and nothing was helping. She could not go home to her parents’ because her father had guns and military training. He never talked about his time serving, but Morwenna knew he did a lot of bad things. She was afraid he might go after Casey. She took a deep breath and exhaled. Nine years of marriage, where she thought they were strong, that he was loyal and didn’t cheat.
Morwenna pulled herself out of the water and got to her feet, holding her sandals between two fingers. She was not supposed to go to the clubhouse today. She’d sent Casey a message saying she had some shopping to do and a few errands to run, and that she’d be at the garage. However, she had remembered Casey’s leather cut with his Bolt patch was in the back of her car, from the date they had just last night. She knew how much he loved that leather cut and was constantly complaining about it being clean. He never wanted to part with it, so she figured she would stop by the clubhouse on her way to do errands and hand him the jacket. She thought perhaps they’d share a little kiss, and even take a chance at making a baby, because she so wanted to have a baby. They had been trying for three years.
