She took a sip of her coffee and heard the door open and close. She hoped it was her mother, who had come out to talk to her. Turning around, she was not surprised to see it was her dad. She loved her dad. They were close, and he didn’t agree with her choice of a husband, but he also hadn’t put up a fight for her to not be with him. He trusted her.
“Hey, Daddy,” she said.
“Do you want to tell me what is going on?” he asked.
“Uh, not a whole lot,” she said.
There was no laughter.
“Sweetheart, I know this is something serious. In the last nine years, you and Casey have not fought. You have never shown up at this house completely shattered. I see you, honey. I see what is going on, and I don’t like it. Now, either you tell me, or I go and grab my favorite gun, and I pay your man a visit—”
“He cheated on me,” she said.
The more she said it out loud, the easier it became.
“That is what happened. Casey has cheated on me, and now I’m here.” She let out a laugh, but it was completely forced. There was no way she was entertained. “Yesterday, I was at the sexual health clinic and I’m waiting to hear from them. I know I’ve got to go and deal with this myself. I’ve got to talk to him and do everything I need to do. You warned me that he wasn’t a good guy, and guess what, Dad, it took nine years, but you were right. Are you happy?” she asked, as more tears started to fall.
Her father grabbed her and pulled her in for a hug. His lips went to the top of her head. “I’m not happy.”
She heard his anger and she held onto him. “Right now, I don’t know what to do. It hurts, Dad. I feel like such a fool. I am a fool. I’m a fucking idiot.” She winced and looked up. “I’m sorry.”
“No, you don’t need to be sorry. You say all the cuss words you like. Right now, you have earned it.”
Her father had been one to hate foul language growing up. He even put a cuss jar in their house. She figured his time in the military, hearing it all day, every day ... he didn’t want that in his life anymore, so cussing was not allowed.
“Thanks, Dad. What should I do?” she asked.
She was not one to cry and avoid the subject. Although, for the last twenty-four hours, that was exactly what she had been doing. Avoiding.
“What do you want to do?” he asked.
“I want out,” she said. “I don’t want to be married to him anymore. He cheated on me, and I don’t think it is the first time either. I think he has done this before.”
“Do you want to tell me who he cheated on you with?” Gus asked.
“Star, I don’t know if you know her. She’s one of the club women,” she said.
“I know her.”
She watched as her father opened his mouth and then closed it. “What?” she asked.
“Nothing, sweetheart. It’s nothing. What do you need from me?”
She clenched her hands together. This was her father. Direct. To the point. “I don’t know. Do you think it would be okay for me to stay here? Casey and I bought that house together, but it’s probably part of the club or something.” This was mortifying.
“You can stay here as long as you want, and yes, you can continue your blog or whatever it is you need.” Her father looked down at his watch. “I do have to go. Your mother would love to have you and she would love to help you as well.” Her father kissed her cheek. “I love you, pumpkin.”
“I love you too, Daddy. Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.” He looked at her and she smiled at him, thankful he was handling this really well.”

There was still no sigh of Wen.
Bolt pulled out his cell phone and sent another text. There were a dozen unanswered.
He didn’t like not knowing where she was, or what she was doing. They needed to talk. The house was so quiet without her in it, and he couldn’t stay. There was no way he was staying in his and Wen’s house without her there. So, he left and came to the clubhouse.
The guys were not talking to him. Star had visited his room last night, but he told her to fuck off. Last night was not the time. He had seen a couple of the guys giving her a wide berth, and she was at the clubhouse with all three kids. Was she just trying to make this worse?
His parents were currently not speaking to him.
Morwenna was due to work at the garage today, so he planned to go there.
