I cross my arms over my chest. “What are you not telling me?”

When he doesn’t answer me, I give him a playful little shove on the shoulder. “Come on, I can handle it. What’s going on?”

But he doesn’t laugh. He doesn’t even smile. He grabs my hand and takes me to his office. He goes to sit behind his desk, and I’m about to let his hand go when he grabs me by the waist and pulls me onto his lap. I don’t know what’s changed in the last fifteen minutes he was with Nash, but it’s obviously something.

He tucks me against his chest and rests his chin on the top of my head. “You’re freaking me out, Kane.”

His voice is hard, and I can hear the anger in it. “I don’t mean to.”

I push on his chest so I can raise up to look him in the eye. “What’s happened? Did they find the killer? Am I going home?”

I hold my breath waiting for his answer. Anyone would be thrilled to have this over, but not me. Well, I’d like to have the killer caught for sure, but I’m not ready to leave here just yet.

“No, but they think that if you go home, you can draw him out.”

My mouth falls open. “They want to use me as bait?”

He frowns, watching me. “Yes, it’s actually a pretty common tactic, but I told Nash you wouldn’t be doing it.”

I can’t hide the relief I feel at that. “Is that why he was mad when he stomped out of here? Because you told him I wouldn’t do it?”

He rests his hand on my hip. “Yeah, he didn’t like it. But I’m not putting you at risk. We’ll get him another way.”

I should probably be mad and self-righteous, maybe tell him he can’t tell me what I can and can’t do, but all I feel is relief and cared for. “Thank you, Kane. Thank you for looking out for me, but you know if you think it will work, then I’ll do it.”

He shakes his head vehemently. “Not happening.”

I put my hands on his shoulders, not wanting to fight with him about this. “So what are they going to do instead?”

He rubs his hand up and down my back distractedly. “We’ve got another plan, but it’s going to take a few days to put it in place.”

I put my hands onto each side of his neck. “So we have a few days together. Is that what you’re telling me?”

His gaze penetrates me as if he’s trying to read my every thought. “Yeah, a few more days. You okay with that?”

I nod immediately. “Absolutely. Are you going to be mad that I’m taking your bed for a few more days?”

He brings his hand up and cups my face. His thumb brushes across my cheek. “Are you going to let me sleep in the bed with you?”

I laugh. “Are we going to sleep?”

He shakes his head side to side. “Not a lot. Maybe just enough to recuperate because if it was up to me, I’d spend all my time deep inside you.”

I look over my shoulder at the desk and the half-opened door. “You ever have sex in here, Pres?”

His body trembles underneath me. “No, never.”

My hand slides down his stomach, and I cup his already hard cock in my hands. “Does this mean you’d want to?”

He lifts his hips up to press himself into my hand. His arms go around me to hold me on his lap. “Fuck yeah.”

He stands up and sets me on the top of his desk. When he starts to walk away, I grab his shirt. “Where are you going?”

He leans down, putting his hands on the desk on each side of me. “I’m going to shut the door because I’m not taking any chances. I don’t share, honey, and no one is seeing you naked. No one but me.”

I gasp at the possessive tone in his voice. “Okay,” I whimper.

He kisses me then before walking over to the door to shut and lock it. He’s back in a flash and pulls me to the edge of the table. I wait for a touch, a kiss, something, but he surprises me when he just stands there and stares at me.

His gaze devours me. “What is it?”

He smiles softly at me. “You’re just so damn beautiful, Allison.”

I smack him on the chest. “I am not.”

His brow furls. “Yes, you are. The most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”

I hook my arms around his neck. “That just earned you a point.”

His fingers grip me at the waist. “Oh yeah, and what does the point get me?”

I kiss his cheek and whisper into his ear, “Anything you want.”

He smirks. “That’s easy. I want you, Allison. That’s it. That’s all I want.”

I press into his embrace. “That’s easy enough. I’m yours.”
